Oil change question 3.5 ecoboost

Earlier of 5k or 1 year for me.

5k seems to be the generally accepted starting point for Ecoboosts, then adjust up or down based on oil testing and/or actual severity of use.

In all my FI vehicles I stick to 5k or less, whereas I've gone up to 10k for N/A vehicles with higher usage (40k/yr).

Just found out the dealer I bought my truck from is giving me 2 free oil changes. Will likely go back to doing it myself after that... I had some bad experiences like some of the other comments. I had a truck a few years ago where the shop didnt seat the dipstick and oil was all over the engine and the blowback was a mess on bottom.

I did 5k mile intervals on my '13 EcoBoost as well, with Mobil 1 up to 193k miles.
Doing the same with my '23 EcoBoost.
I did my 2011 F150. 5.0 v8 at 3000 miles for the first change using Mobil 1. After i found out it takes 8qts I basically waited till the change oil came on. I put on 240k miles on that truck only changed the air filter ( cleaned and oiled the aftermarket K&N) and changed the plugs every 90k miles. Absolutely the best vehicle I ever owned! Hopefully my new Tremor last that long!!!

Yeah, the 3.5 holding 6qt of oil is a plus. I buy almost all of my Mobil 1 at Costco or Sam's Clubs in the 6qt cases. Even with more packaging, it works out less than buying a 5qt jug and a 1qt bottle.

I tried the 12 qt bag in a box once, but was just enough of a pain (and I already had some old school metal oil cans for measuring/pouring) that the savings wasn't worth the hassle.

I was able to reach down into the engine compartment and remove the oil filter without going underneath the truck. I also have a fumoto drain valve because I have aftermarket skid plates which makes for a clean oil change.

Pro Tip: Once you've completed your oil change you can add it as a service on Carfax, just add your vehicle to your Garage (now you have full access to your vehicle without paying) and you can add service history and anyone that runs a carfax can see what you did. No excuse not to do it yourself now haha.

Funny you mentioned the 12qt oil in a bag as this is the first time I tried it and couldn’t agree more, what a pain in the ass! I’ll have another go at it and use the rest up then I’ll go back to the Costco or Sam’s 6qts in the box!

FYI, you can buy 2 5quart jugs the first time, then use one full jug and one quart from the second jug. Next oil change just buy one jug and you still have 4 quarts from last change. Repeat until you run out of the secondary jug....
