Shell on Tremor?

I have ordered an RSI Smartcap and bedrug mainly for family car camping/ overlanding with our two dogs. Don’t like RTTsuWill take pics once I put it all together!
I actually love the color contrast. Ties in well with my other black accessories.View attachment 1419View attachment 1421
I love the contrast too. I think the smartcap will look great w the tremor wheels

I've had a shell on my last 4 trucks and really like having one. I've got a Super Pacific ordered for my Tremor which should be ready for install in March.

Thank you! I may still join the Tremor club. Chickened out on my Tremor order and will reassess my towing needs in 2-3 years while this supply chain crap settles down.
Yeah, I've seriously hesitated about buying new right now, with everything going on. Work in industrial manufacturing and, it ain't pretty... anywhere...

Looked around at low mile 2019's, and part of me still tugged that way. But those Tremors are so damned sexy..

I’m really not a fan of shells on trucks. What makes you guys like them? My dad always had them on his trucks growing up (I’m 40) so now I just see them as an old man accessory… 😂😂

Never been a fan, takes away a bunch of the use of the truck, but I guess it also depends on your needs.

I would've just gotten a 4 door bronco with the fat tires instead of getting a shell

I'm in the same boat. If I wanted a shell I'd just have got an SUV, like the bronco with the fat tires. Idk I feel like it takes away a lot of the truck functionality to replace it with different functionality. 🤷‍♂️

I've actually never owned one, so you could be right. Just know from buddies having them, that they seem pretty convenient. Most items from the hardware store, a spot for dogs, luggage on trips, etc, all while keeping things out of the rain and snow. SUV's don't give you the payload and towing a truck does, and if bed occasionally need for things like mulch etc, just take shell off. If using bed for things like dirt bikes, appliances/refrigerators, etc, this is obviously not the road to go.

I’ve always been anti cap / tonneau but then I moved north. Snow and ice filled my bed half the year making it unusable for hockeybags, MTB’s, dirt bikes, really anything without shoveling it out. I installed a roll up cover a few years ago specifically because I could remove it in a minute with just 2 clips and it’s been a life changer. I can secure stuff in the bed, the kids hocky bags don’t get rained on, ect. Now I’m thinking, that the added space a shell provides might be even handier. If I ever need to carry a load of hay again I can just pull it off! I still probably won’t get one but I definitely see the appeal now.

I'm on the fence between the RSI with Decked system, or going with the Peragon bed cover again. I figure with the RSI can use it to sleep in on weekend hunting trips, plus the fold out kitchen makes for less I would need to pack. The Peragon was great on my ram 1500, kept everything dry and was easily removable. The only hang up I have with the cap is spraying blood out of the back. Does anyone have experience with spraying blood off a Decked system or out the back of a capped truck?

Any other fathers have an answer for this question? :)

With the decked, the nooks and crannies will need to be sprayed thorroughly and you'll want the truck to be at a pretty solid angle. Maybe the Ford engineers are Fathers too and that is why we have such a massive rake. The bed has a lot of gaps in it so it should empty pretty well but you will be spraying for a long time to get it clean.

I've never been a fan of caps on trucks either but I'm looking towards retirement and I'm wanting to camp out of the back of mine. A cap would allow me to sleep back there and stuff so I am currently looking for what kind of cap I'd want to put on. Maybe it's because I'm pushing 50 now but I actually think some of them can look pretty cool. When I think of a cap I always think of the generic beater-looking white cap on a different coloured truck. But they come paint matched with all sorts of accessories like racks and mounts. I realize you lose the ability to transport tall items like fridges or mattresses, but beyond that, I like the ability to lug more gear by stacking higher in the bed, and the ability to camp out of the back by making a sleeping platform with a mattress up top and storage below. And for the record, I'm a dad of 3 :)

Ok, I've had it with you human's insensitivity. I mean, I can't even sleep in a 6'5" bed without balling up into the fetal position. Have some consideration people. :)

All kidding aside, If you read previous threads, it could very well be because you're nearing 50 that shells are starting to look cool. Being an immature 53 myself, I've never had a shell (mainly because they couldn't hold enough weight) and I still don't appreciate color match but I would be lying to myself if I said that day isn't on the horizon. I wonder if this could be my thesis. "As men mature, the desire to cover stuff increases" a Psychological thriller and thesis by Yeti.

Hahah I love that last line! For me I view hanging out in the back of my truck as an escape (wife, kids, job, reality). I built a fort out in my backyard for the kids and I end up hanigng out in it and sleeping in it all year round (the little bar I have out there motivates me too). Maybe it's bringing out a bit of the kid in us older fellas lol.

10yrs behind you, Yeti, but think you may have a solid thesis there.. And with ya, Steve.

I am mostly inclined via utilitarian needs, but this could very well be due to an increased need for covering stuff, re suburban dad lifestyle. I've personally always liked color matched shells, but have also been called an old man since about my 20's, so.. Diggin' the black exterior of those RSI's!

Ok, I think this thread has turned into one of my favorites now. HAHA! I guess I need to start researching a good cap so I can be prepared once my geriatric instincts kick in...

Damnit! I’m not getting old, I’m getting distinguished! Now get off my lawn!

I really really like that cap as well. Damnit!
I had a guy in an F250 Tremor stop this week as I was getting into my truck to ask me about my canopy. haha

As long as you don't do a canopy like this, I think you miss the geriatric mark....haha.

I like my stuff staying dry and a tonneau cover doesn't provide enough space for me needs. Plain and simple, I'm a utilitarian. I wouldn't even have a truck if I didn't need one. I'd much rather be zipping around in a sports car.
