Finally got my ARE topper. I had originally ordered the Overland but switch to the V series because I was not I love with the black strip
Ha! That's awesome, thanks. Also if anybody needs a booster seat. This is definitely the one to get. Matches perfect!
What made you do the V rather than the Z2 or the CX? I'm trying to figure out what ARE topper to order right now and it's driving me crazy. Also, how long did you have to wait to get it?Finally got my ARE topper. I had originally ordered the Overland but switch to the V series because I was not I love with the black strip
Well I changed my order a few times so I made it longer than it should have been. Took about 8 months but should have been 4 months. I heard they are 18-20 weeks out right now though. What made you do the V rather than the Z2 or the CX? I'm trying to figure out what ARE topper to order right now and it's driving me crazy. Well I should have done more research then because that's the one I ordered. The CX Evolve looks awesome but I heard there are issues with the rear door glass. Maybe that has improved but I read that you could just reach right up under the glass and unlock it.
Some guy in some YouTube video was complaining about it. I suspect that it's either been fixed, or that it is fairly simple to rig up a DIY solution. If you get yours let us know... I'm sure lots of people are wondering about it.Well I should have done more research then because that's the one I ordered.
Well, hopefully the scary AF German Shepherd that's in the back and barks at literally everything will deter anyone. He literally wouldn't know how to actually bite, but sounds like a grizzly bear. Some guy in some YouTube video was complaining about it. @Lerickson85 , another question: I'm curious if you measured or observed a difference in the rake with the topper. I'm thinking that rather than worrying about rear suspension, a topper and some bed drawers will solve the problem for me.Finally got my ARE topper.
Oh wow, that's nuts and doesn't seem well thought out. It's too late now for me, it's already paid for. I actually don't love the back glass with the curvature, yet. But I didn't love my canopy on my last truck either until it grew on me. I'm sure this'll do the same.I found the video of the issue with the ARE CX Revo and CX Evolve back window, I'll include it below. After thinking it over I don't think I'm actually deterred by it. It's unlikely a random opportunist would know about that, and if you're a seasoned thief you'd probably just smash through the window since it would be faster. Also it seems very possible to secure the plastic cover over the latch mechanism using a few zip ties or something.
So after thinking all that through, I just placed a deposit on a CX Evolve! Now I have two backordered and expensive things to obsess about... the truck and the shell.
I should have measured prior to getting the topper on! Still a good rake. I’d say it is down a half inch with the topper.@Lerickson85 , another question: I'm curious if you measured or observed a difference in the rake with the topper. I'm after a shell as well. Most of the RSI vendors I've looked at say that 2021+ caps won't ship til, well, after elk season (October, December - depends on who you talk to). I'm hoping for something sooner...but we'll see.New to the forum, put my order in through Granger back in March….hoping to have it for an elk trip out west in September……..not counting on that! (402A w/ Torsen & most options; stone grey)
Question on shells/campers - how hot does it get in the back? Does the carpet liner help any with that? Anyone have experience with both a fiberglass & RSI shell to say if there is a noticeable difference in heat on the unlined RSI shell?
I am set on putting a shell; now just need to decide on fiberglass or RSI
Thanks for any input or opinions
I’ve got to experience a friends RSI cap on a gladiator and it’s very nice - robust, good quality fit and finish, looks great, very accessorizable. It’s what I want. Would hold up well to rocky off road constant beatings.Mainly curious about the heat while parked or how long it would take to cool off on the inside once parked for truck camping
& I guess on the reverse; would it be a challenge to keep the RSI shell warm in the winter if camping (vs a traditional fiberglass shell)
Haven’t heard that the rsi shells are that long of a lead; might make my decision easy
Yes with some nuance. My current truck is black with a Leer topper and I have temperature sensor in the back for my dogs. It easily can get up to 100 degrees on a sunny day back there. Colour makes a big difference, it was the driving factor for me switching to White. I manage it with shade cloths, and swamp cooler w a portable fan. It doesn't get quite as hot as the cab, and it will definitely cool down faster. You can see the temp drop while driving with the windows open on the sensor app.New to the forum, put my order in through Granger back in March….hoping to have it for an elk trip out west in September……..not counting on that! I ordered 1, they estimated augGreat idea on the swamp cooler for the warmer days!
Appreciate the replies
Leaning hard to the RSI shell; but the long lead delivery makes me question it
If anyone sees or has an RSI shell on a stone grey truck post a picture please.
