Tremor Amber Grille lighting

Im working on them. I’ve 6 orders ready to get cleaned up and packaged. The rest are in lens assembly stage and I plan to finish most if not all of those this week.

I think I'll have to jump on the next order... read this thread when pre orders still had slots and decided against it, I was wrong lol.
 
it can. i wired it into my harness but have also installed it with the putco pnp harness and just daisy chained their harness and my harnesses together.

What do you recommend for the cleanest install? About to order the putco and trying to decide if I want their harness or not. Planning to do one combined install with a set from the July batch w/ newer style harness. I'm not familiar with the connectors . . . additional parts/tools to integrate the putco wires directly into your newer style harness?

the easiest thing to do is to get the putco harness and then just daisy chain their harness and my harness.

their harness is pricey though so i understand not wanting to buy another one. you could technically take the connector off of my harness and wire the putco to it with new pins and reinstalling them in the connector but i dont recommend that for anyone iffy on electrical. more so because if anything goes wrong with my lights, that will be my first area of concern for what went wrong. i've moved more to the plug n play setup in an effort to both make it easier for people and to rule out areas of mis installation if anything happens with the lights.
 
Not iffy about electrical…shoulda just read a little more before posting the question. I was just thinking the daisy chain option will add unneeded length/mess that needs to be zip tied or otherwise secured. It looks like I can buy a deutsch connector kit & crimp tool for less than the overpriced putco harness (or just go the cheap route and tap into one of the grill light harnesses).

Also, please add me to the list for the startup animation controllers…thanks!

i don't recommend t-tapping into my harness, that would essentially negate the waterproofing that has been gained from going the route of the nice new connectors.

the fairly cheap deutsch connector kit and crimpers will certainly be useful down the road. i've found a number of uses outside of just my lightbars for that kit.

animation controller update:

At this time, i've shipped 15 animation controller units. I have additional units on hand that are spoken for but am currently holding on shipment due to some recent discoveries from those who have already received their units.

Basically, what is happening is that the animations just continuously trigger and dont stop and stay solid. After talking with multiple people who have had this occur and those who havent(including myself) i came to the realization that the people not having issues have used forscan to increase the DRL brightness.

These trucks have what i would consider non standard LED lighting control. The DRLs dont run on 12v like most other lighting. For instance, the turn signals do use 12v. The factory brightness setting for the DRLs is something like 10%, which results in a really low voltage(~1.2v) being used. when the brightness is increased in Forscan to 50%, the voltage bumps to ~6v.

what i believe is happening is that the voltage is low enough to where as it fluctuates at all, it peaks just enough to trigger the controller to animate, then it drops and then peaks again, which then triggers the controller again. when the brightness is increased, the voltage stays high enough to not drop below the controller trigger threshold so it only triggers when the voltage jumps the first time upon the DRLs activating.

I was able to replicate the issue on my truck by dropping the brightness back to the factory setting. the issue was resolved when i returned the brightness back to the 50% mark.

I have to work with my lighting vendor to figure out a fix for this down the road. likely some kind of inline voltage transformer to bump the voltage prior to entering the controller.

the easiest solution at the moment is to use forscan to bump drl brightness a bit.

I've reached out to all who already have a controller to inform them of this issue. If you have already paid for a controller but not yet received it, please reach out to me. I will be working to reach out to everyone, but the information i have on file for the controller orders varies whether i have an actual name or a forum name so i have struggled a little to connect the dots for some people if i don't have all the info.

I apologize to those who have ordered and paid already for this. it didn't cross my mind when i tested them that the drl brightness would impact the functionality.

unfortunately this means that those that i have down on standby for the controller, will have to wait a bit longer until i can get a revised controller solution.

there were only 3 august grille light preorders that upgraded the controllers. ill be reaching out to them to see what they would like to do. i can send the regular controllers if they don't want to mess with forscan and then get the animation controllers to them once i have a solution.

Question....can the control box do what it does but the power be supplied from the fuse box?

i dont know.

assuming you find a fuse that gets power when the DRL is activated. it would make sense that you could tap that to trigger the lights and assuming it used 12 volts and not just the same voltage that the DRLs are getting, then that would allow the controller to animate properly.

that would render the plug n play harness rather useless though since you would need to extend the DRL wires from each light to the fuse location.

i havent spent much time tapping fuses so i dont know what the options would be. i know this is likely possible becasue if you dont get putcos harness, the install is an add a fuse.
 
Awesome work sir! I just picked up a 2023 Tremor 5.0. And this is my first post. Lol.

This product looks top notch, and more than worthy of being a factory installed option. Would have been cool as another unique item on the Tremors.

im working through my current order list for now. I have a running standby list for additional orders so that i know when i have enough interest to do another batch of orders. I'll go ahead and add you to it.

Lights are $400, Plug n play harness is $50. the start up animation is currently $50, but im working through some recently discovered challenges with those controllers and im not sure what the fix is going to be/cost quite yet.

So what about us enginerds and technogeeks who have already made the forscan mods to DRL brightness…can we get your startup animation controller “as-is” with no voltage regulation fix?

The controllers are good for folks who have made the changes. No additional fix needed as far as I can see currently. Working on a hardware fix to accommodate those who haven’t/don’t want to use forscan.
