Tremor Rear Shock Options

A lot of good information in this thread.

As we're exploring rear shocks, here's a couple more (Are these viable options?):

Bilstein 5125 #33-185576 Extended 34.9", collapsed 20.75"
Fox 2.0 #980-02-034 Extended 31.1", collapsed 19.1"

@Yeti, you've had them on for awhile now, what do you think of the standard duty RAS? I'd do very little towing and rarely max out the bed payload. My original thought was these would be an option to help with axle wrap under hard acceleration or off-roading, just wondering if they'd be useful in this application. And yet another question, I've read that the RAS may raise the rear end about an inch, if so, would you go down to a 1" block?

Thanks!

I went ahead and purchased the Fox 98224828. Pick up the truck Thursday and make the drive back home. Sunday would be the earliest I could install if they arrive by then. Will definitely update after installation.
Likewise, I ordered Fox/BDS today from Stage3. I'm returning the Icon 2.0s.

I have Fox on my '17 in the rear and my plan was to do them again on the Tremor. This thread has been great in getting verified info when it comes to measurements and what will fit.
Emailed Stage3 and asked if they are certain ICON will work.. I was really hoping to have something before a trip this weekend. They replied with the following...

"So the Icon shocks will support the additional lift on the tremor. That being said ICON will NOT officially say that or support that claim. "

My concern with both of those is the collapsed length. If you go with either of those, I would add an additional block or replace the bump stop to reduce the risk of those things slamming down. It's all in how you use them. I drive like miss Daisy but some of the terrain I drive slowly over would definitely slam either side down to the bump stops. not knowing the actual up travel at full compression while fitted on the truck, my thought is to keep that compressed length as close to OE as possible.

The RAS does raise the back side, about an inch or so. Overall, I think it's a viable option if you're going to tow more than 7K or anything over ~ 700 pounds tongue weight (all with a WDH). For me, I intend on uninstalling/reinstalling as needed and leave the block alone.

As an example, Mountain Yak is at the dealership, today. So, last night, I got the rear wheels off the ground and removed the RAS system. It probably took 30 minutes because I had to find the correct size wrenches. I'll be adding them back on, Wednesday for my trip to GA, this weekend.

As for the 4" Fox, if there is nothing else available with digressive valving, I'll go with them. They are somewhat linear and are definitely better than the OE rears. My perfect world includes digressive front (Icon) and rears (Bilstein or Icon)

The two Bilstein I have numbers for are as below. Both are roughly an inch short from OE so you would need to make your own decision for your use.
Bilstein 5160 25-261400
Extended Length29.440"
Compressed Length17.520"
Travel11.920"

Bilstein 5100
  • Compressed Length: 18.22" (462.8 mm)
  • Extended Length: 29.47" (748.5 mm)

I just ordered the 5160s - 25-261400

I may as well see how they do, this weekend.

For a stock height rear on a Tremor I would think those would be too long (need to get the specs on them for extended and collapsed length). The 5100 33-253190 that is for 0-1" of lift would likely be better, but again you need to get the specs and compare to the measurements that have been posted on this thread.

For some reason Bilsteins have been the go to of the F150 crowd for years. Personally they are not my favorite and I prefer Fox or Eibach over Bilstein (I find the valving too stiff for my liking, making the ride harsher), but there are tons of people who are Bilstein or nothing for the F150.

Yup, Rams too.
Basically they're cheaper and good quality. They seem a bit more digressive than the Eichons at first but as I understand it, they do smooth out about 1k miles.
Digressive valving is my preference over Fox due to there being more roll control while towing or carrying more weight.

Seems the eibachs are good to go. Techs said everything looks great.

Sent a message to Bilstein if they respond I'll post it here. I was very detailed in my question to include average payload and use, explained that the measurements were the closest to our oem shocks. Hopefully they will respond.

5160s arrived, yesterday. I'm hoping to have time to install them, tonight. These are the 29.5" length
Bilstein 5160 25-261400
Extended Length29.440"
Compressed Length17.520"

Installed. i had to flip the recommended position due to fitment issues in front ofbthe passenger side frame support being a possible point of contact.

I'll put them through their paces, this weekend but they seem a bit softer than the Eibachs. Sometime in the near future, I'll try them with the RAS installed.

I'm guessing they'll feel better with the RAS than the Eibachs did but so far, I like the Eibach rears better.

Has anyone looked into the Gen2 Raptor Rear shocks. Apparently the rear of a gen2 raptor shocks are 31".

I ordered Fox/BDS today from Stage3. I'm returning the Icon 2.0s.
Update, despite BDS website saying otherwise, the 4" Fox/BDS 2.0s have a compressed length of 18.95" on the box and via measurement.

This is too close for comfort as max rear articulation is:
24.125" ride height shock length
29.125" shock length at static max articulation
-5" difference so 19.1" static compressed and stock fully compressed is 18.1". BDS is 18.95" Add in some dynamic loading and/or bump stop compression...

That sucks, looks like I need to return mine when they get here tomorrow.
