What's new

🛠️ What have you done to your F150 Tremor this week?

Got 285/75R18 Nitto Recon Grapplers mounted. Really pleased with them so far. Not much additional noise and don’t feel like they stiffened the ride too much considering they are Load E.

I am diagnosing some possible slight vibration and will likely take back to have them rebalanced.

Anyone else have vibration issues with new bigger tires?

Did you get an alignment? Might be that.

Also, make sure you adjust the speedometer in for scan!

Looks great.

Which leveling kit are you running, the truck looks great!

i did not do an alignment. why would mount and balance of new tires mess with alignment? does that mean every time you rotate your tires, an alignment should be performed? just curious. wouldn't expect taking the wheels off would mess with alignment

i don't think the bigger tire diameter really changes the geometry, but ill have to think that through a little more.

just the Procomp 2.5" kit for now until i decide on what i want to do in the front for the long term.

Always align when replacing tires - especially with different size tires. I didn’t do it years back once and had a wierd vibration. When I asked an ASE master mechanic friend, I got read the riot act; he said a lot of time the wearing of the old tires naturally pulls wheels out of alignment to self-compensate for uneven wear.

Aligned them, vibration gone.

Never replaced without an alignment since.

Looks great. Does it fit in the garage?

Looks great!! No help on the vibration question except to say I upsized to same size tire (Ridge vs Recon) and also had them do alignment check……no vibration noticed going that route.

Curious what your reasoning was going Recon vs Ridge?

i cant even attempt to get it in the garage due to all the other stuff in my garage. Gym takes up one side. workshop/child toys the other.

the Recons seemed less aggressive. i wasn't looking to go too aggressive. The recon is an A/T rather than the Hybrid that the Ridge is considered.

In my experience changing tire sizes require an alignment. Your current alignment was done with different size tires. Not needed every rotation because you're not changing tire sizes. Would almost guarantee you an alignment will fix your vibration.

I’ll go get an alignment to make sure I don’t wear them prematurely. But I need to do some research and understand the geometry. A bigger diameter tire shouldn’t impact the geometry of the suspension. The spring compression is still the same and should sit the control arms and cvs and everything in the same spots/angles. The bigger tire just pushes the whole truck up.

I’ll report back what I find from research. 🧐

I agree that new tires alone shouldn’t change alignment enough to worry about. But I don’t know how much you paid for those tires, my 37’s were almost $700.00 each. So an alignment is the cheapest part of the deal rather it needed it or not IMO. Truck looks great, and I have heard good things about those tires.

$700 . mine were less than half that considering cash back on Prime day.

as i drove a bit more lastnight, i noticed that the vibration felt more in my seat than in the steering wheel. like the back end was bouncing. i took a look at the balance weights. the Drivers rear has 11 weights on it in one area and the drivers front has 12 weights. personally i think that is crap and someone not properly balancing and being lazy. the passenger side isn't as bad.

I worked out and finally got all the parts to wire up all my upfitter switches to a fused relay block so I can add additional lights easily, surprisingly it only took 2 nights after work to fab up a bracket, modify the box, mount and wire it.

so did you add 6 additional circuits or just add additional fuses and relays to the existing 6 circuits?

I just added additional fuses and relays so in effect the factory wiring is just a trigger wire and I don't have to worry about their power limitations.

I would take it back. That is too many weights. Looks like the machine operator needs more training.

I installed the Putco illuminated emblem on the front of my truck,
Tried wiring it up directly with a fuse tap but didn't like the way it turned out.
Ended up wiring it to the #6 upfitter switch. Now I can flash it at will.

yea, i have an appointment for them to fix it on Monday. then ill get an alignment after i make sure the balance is right.

Sometimes they can break the bead and rotate the tire 180 degrees. Might use less weight. A good operator on the machine means a lot.
Good luck.
