What's new

window tint

my guy who I use in Milwaukee WI has a computer program that has all of the % in it and it spits it out, love it.

will be getting my truck tinted and ceramic coated next week, if the truck comes in this week like they said it would!!

Hey SDTremor.
I'm also in SD. I will be getting my Silver 2022 402A late Feb! Stoked.
Question:
Do you ever worry about getting pulled for the tint? I am always tempted to get my cars tinted, but I don't want to go through the hassle of removing it for a fix-it. Since I have never done it I don know the likely hood of SDPD or the Sherriff pulling ya over. I don't want to jinx you, but have you ever had an issue?
Doug, I've had tint on my trucks for the last 25years and never been pulled over for it. I'm sure there's always a first time though..... Typically I do not tint the sunroof so in a pinch I can open it for a little more back light. I have even had some with tint on the front and never had any issues. Years back I had an X5 with 15% on the fronts and 5%(Limo) on the rest and still never had an issue, though a few times I rolled down the windows at odd moments to "check a street sign."

Nice. I usually try to keep it as legal as I can to avoid giving the fuzz an excuse to shake me down.
But I think I'm just going to go with it. It looks too good and having the privacy is too key to do anything else.
Thanks for the feedback SD!

Naturally you get pulled over a lot less in a truck, not sure why but it just feels that way. I never see them pulled over, used to never get pulled over when I had a truck before. 🤷‍♂️

Had a lowered Lexus on 19s, lived pulled over.

Right?
This is why I try to stay legit. I had a slammed 61 VW bug waaaay-back-when with tint and always got pulled over here in SD.
My cars since then have been straight legal cause I was just so sick of it.
I never get pulled anymore.
My motorcycle is another story, but that thing is more mod than street legal so I kind of expect it. Loud as hell too..

I'm getting tint. Thanks for helping me grow my balls back.

Anytime! If you need a place, Andrew at SDtint has done my last eight (I know, I know...) vehicles and never steers me wrong.

Hey, if you don't mind telling us, what did you pay for the tint?

I paid $679+tax for my tint.

-Windshield Xpel XR+ 50%
-Front Windows, Rear Windows, Back Windows in Xpel XR 35%

Wanted XR+ all the way around but my installer recommended the XR for a better matched look. The XR+ film has a bluish tint that doesn’t match super well with the factory smoke look windows.

I live in Utah FYI. Price seems to vary per market.

Just picked the truck up from tint. Ended up going with XPEL Prime XR Plus
- windshield 50%
- Front windows - 20%
- Rear windows and back glass - 70%

Had every intention to put 70% on the windshield going into today. After a discussion with the shop owner this morning ended up with the 50%. I think I will be happy I did. My biggest concern is night time visibility, still to be determined, but he assured me 50% is the "sweet spot" for the windshield and it looks oh so good.

Damn, that does look good Stice1.
The tint on the front really ties it together.
And I love that carbonized grey - or is that lead foot?

Stone Gray.

I initially wanted leadfoot but was forced into Stone Gray with ordering a 22. In hindsight I am very happy with the color choice.

How are you liking the windshield tint in regards to nighttime driving? I've always been concerned about it but I don't think my tint guy will let me leave the shop without getting the windshield done. It for sure looks badass but I just don't want to loose visibility at night.

Offering my opinion here on the windshield being tinted….

First day I noticed it immediately and it was definitely darker. After maybe 3 days it’s a non issue.

It’s been a game changer in my eyes too. I had some LASIK about 3 years ago and one of the side effects was higher sensitivity to light. I still wear sunglasses with the tint in the day but my eyes feel more relieved. Noticed it when I switched to driving my other 2 vehicles that don’t have it.

I’m sure that once summer hits here in UT it’ll more than pay it’s dividends. We had a record amount of 100° days last year. I’m trying to keep that cabin cool and the dash protected.

If you’re worried then go even lighter. I should actually edit my original post. I did:

-70% XR+ on my windshield. Only losing 30% of light. Pretty sure my post says it was 50% and that would be too dark in my opinion.

I’d say go for it.
