window tint

I had 70% on my windshield and find at times, it interferes with the light sensor and turns the screens dark during the day.
Good to know. I'll see what my experience is like. I don't mind it jumping to dark mode as long as the overall brightness is OK.

50% windshield
5% front windows
15% rear windows/back glass (matched fronts well)
Don't have a sunroof
Paid $400

All ceramic. I leave my screen on dark mode and usually have the lighting turned down a hair (night driving can be a pain on backroads with glare from the cluster when trying to turn. Photosensitive though - its better than the alternative and means I get to cheat with pullovers which admittedly rarely happen around here. It's a non moving violation so they're generally more concerned about what they're really pulling you for instead of tint...or they're from out of state and haven't learned yet.

Get it matched. Doesn't look right when there are two different tints.
I would suggest you check what's legal in your state though. In WA, there's a percentage that's legal and if you want something darker you have to go over to Idaho which has different laws. It may not be your choice as most reputable shops will only do the legal limit in the front windows. if you want something different you may have to find an alternate way. I've seen where guys had to peel off their super dark (expensive) tinting in front of a cop. So, you'se takes your chances if you go too dark.

Just depends on where you live. Not surprised at WA. Had my front windows matched today (looks way better), with ceramic, slightly over limit, but no inspections here and sounds like nobody cares.

I’m having Xpel Ceramic tint out in this Wednesday.

Planning on Windshield
Sunroof
Back Windows Clear

Maybe 35% in front which gets me close to the back so it matches.

Mainly going ceramic for heat rejection properties. Have run a lot darker in the past in my previous vehicles but the older I get the more the night driving bothers me with the darker rear windows.
You cross shop Xpel with 3m ceramic? I'm leaning towards Xpel myself. Notice a difference in temp inside?

Tinted with Xpel XR Plus Ceramic.
  • 20% fronts
  • 70% rears and back (due to the already tinted privacy glass)
  • 70% windshield
The fronts metered at 14% and the rears (with 70% + the factory tinted glass) metered at 13%. I told them to match or make the rears slightly darker and they nailed it.
Hey brother, do you have anymore picture of your truck with a side shot view with more sunlight? I might have to run that set up.

I have Xpel prime xr plus where I did 20% tint all around. Everything is tinted except for the windshield. Pretty much I asked the folks to match the rear windows.

Tints in the pictures look a lot darker then they really are. If I could do it again I might have gone down to 15% instead. Hope this helps.

My rear windows have sunshades for my little one who’s in a rear facing car seat, but otherwise, here’s some shots with 12pm noon sunlight.

So are the back windows the stock tint or did you ceramic tint on top of those?

FYI, this is 70% windshield, rears + sunroof (sunroof isn't covered in the photos) and 20% driver and passenger fronts. All Ceramic.
