Air Bags

Okay I finally got around to installing the air lift 5000 with the daystar cradles. For the most part the installation was straight forward. The only problem for me was lining up the bag to sit perfectly in the middle of the cradle. I had to move the cradle to the forward slotted hole (there are three holes on the lower bracket) in order for the bag to drop straight in. I realize the bag also has adjustment on the top bracket. I don’t like the fact that the centre of my cradle sits a couple inches forward of the axle. However I felt this was better than having the bag rub as it comes up and down with the suspension travel. Anyone else have issues with this?
Did you order the air lift with the internal jounce bumper? Any issues with the placement of hte daystar cradle position or did you adjust it so it was more centered on the axle?

How has this setup been for you?

No i didn't order the air bags with the Jounce bumper (I was advised not to order the ones with the Jounce Jumper). The placement seems to work. I recently pulled my 7500 lbs trailer with no issues. Although it's not centered on the axle it seems to work just fine.

I'm looking to do this install and I'm wondering how you lifted the truck frame from the axle to check the placement of the daystar cradles.
Hi-lift jack in the hitch? I saw a youtuber doing that.

I used a lift. I have access to a shop.

Cheater...though now I feel somewhat better than you did it on a lift with similar results :ROFLMAO:

Shouldn't need to lift too high before the non aired bags clear the cradle

I installed the airlift 57355 kit with cradles on a 2024 Tremor and here are some of my notes:

  • The most time consuming part is figuring out how everything bolts together, but once you figure it out, the install is pretty straightforward.
  • I didn't have to use any of the wire relocation brackets that come with the kit
  • I didn't have to cut my drivers side brake line bracket, mine was already smaller than on the install videos and I was able to slide the bottom plate in no problem.
  • Jacking up the rear from the hitch makes it easier by creating space to get the components in and out
  • You have to install the cradles in the most forward slot of the bottom bracket and install the upper section of the bag pretty much all the way forward in the upper mount. This gave me pretty much perfect alignment of the bag and cradle.
  • I ran my air lines to the passenger side storage cubby in the bed as I plan to use a small bike pump to air up when needed.
  • Ride quality seems unchanged unloaded with 5PSI.

I backed up and placed the hitch over a curb and used the OEM jack on the curb to lift from below the hitch. Way more than enough height this way.

I went ahead and did the AirLift 5000. I didn't use the Daystar cradle but just what Airlift provided. The install was extremely simple. They are awesome. Don't know its there until I need them. I run 5lbs per the manufacture recommendation for minimal pressure. I pulled a car hauler with a 5000lb vehicle and it was amazing. I have 10k miles on it and it seems lately my fuel economy has improved. I didn't really care before but I pulled a lighter trailer today 300 miles and got 16mpg. Don't know if the bags helped but I am loving this truck!
Carefull with your bags hard mounted top and bottom, the articulation of these trucks is big and there is a possibility of overextending the bags and tearing them if you go off road and cause big flex in the rear, just a thought, no worry if you never go off road, I do so I used te lower cradles that allow the bag to float and is only mounted on the top, once loaded and aired up, the bag sits in the cradle and works perfect! Glad they are working great for you, so are mine, love my truck!!

Finally got around to installing the Air Lift 57355 kit and the Air lift 25980EZ Wireless one.

Everything fit well, I ended up installing the Wireless one in the bed to keep it out of the elements.
It took me about 5 hours for both hardest part was trying to screw the Wireless one on the thin aluminum bed.
I ended up using toggle bolts as screws were just sinning in the aluminum.

thanks Fozzy for steering me the right way !!

Def like the location of the compressor, just for longevity, keeping it from elements. Has anyone got any other mounting solutions?? I have not checked if there is any room under hood yet. Nice install

I've been reading up on towing options, and it seems like the airbags are going to be the best choice.

I have a stock suspension on a 2023, 402A Ecoboost.
Looking at occasionally towing a 10,000 lb boat/trailer short distances of less than 50 miles.
I don't think off roading is in my future other than gravel roads and farm fields.

After reading this thread, seems I shouldn't need the cradles if I'm not doing more serious off roading. I'm still trying to understand if I should go with the jounce bumper or without. Will the jounce bumpers affect my normal ride?

Does anybody have any follow ups to help me decide?
Can anyone confirm that the airbags do not conflict with the headlight leveler?

Thanks!

Did you install this on a stock suspension? Any updates on your ride?

Thanks!

The Airlift 5000 air bags are compatible with the arm on the rear axle for the headlight leveling. Don’t get the internal jouncers. By all accounts they make the ride stiffer. You should just do the cradles from the start. They are cheap, won’t affect the ride, and then you will always have the option to go offroad without risking damage to the bags.

Thanks for the input. I’m having trouble finding availability of the Daystar cradles, I would think the ones from Airlift are compatible as well?

The cradles are pretty much universal. Rough Country makes some too

That’s what I was thinking. The Daystar’s also cost double, so was just wondering if there might have been something special about those.

What's everyone using, if anything, for air pressure gauges? I'd like to keep the bags independent, even though airing up and down would be easier combined.

I used the RC cradles and had no issues. Like Betarange mentioned, mount the cradle in the slot furthest towards the front. I used that slot but kept it al the way back. I aligned the bags to the cradle after that. Definitely go with a cradle no matter which setup you get. Here's what the RC setup looked like with the wheel drooped. I believe the wheel would have dropped more if it could have.

I'm using a pressure gauge I found at home depot and its survived a year now. I 3d printed a protective cover and a mount for the shutoff valve to split the two bags.

*I was testing for leaks which is why the pressure is at 60PSI
