Axle rust?

Maybe I can at least hide it with some Husky Wheel well Liners. Looking at those right now

I am curious if Ford or dealerships are gonna do anything about it. Interesting enough the rust is on the forward facing part of the Axel and not the rear facing side.

I don’t believe I have rust on my rear axle — 402A August, 2021. I will grab a photo when I get home.

Perhaps someone at Ford decided to save money and use from the bad rust parts stock — this issue was shown in the summer/fall last year on other trucks. I thought Ford would have addressed this for future production.

Right there with you bro. Nov build and took delivery 12/30.

I think yours is worse than mine. Man that sucks. I really don’t know if they are going to end up doing anything about it. Apparently it’s been a problem for the past year. I’m guessing if they planned on making everyone happy and fixing it they would’ve already done so. You’d have thought they’d have at least done something different back in March when people were first reporting it.

Ordered two cans of: Rust-Oleum 248656 Professional Grade Rubberized Undercoating Spray thanks to the Mizer Brothers great video tutorial. They made it look easy.

Here is a TFL where the issue is discussed:

Yeah, it sucks that we have to take care of this on a new truck.

Good grief! It must be coming in batches and mine (built on 07/29), the storage of them was maybe not that long to accumulate that much rust. Just baffled why they don't keep them in a dry place.

Honestly, I could scrub it and paint it, but I shouldn’t have to. Supposedly the dealer is going to look at mine again at the next oil change to see if it got worse while supposedly in the meantime trying to figure out what Ford will have them do to fix it. I’m guessing it’s just a BS runaround that they think I will eventually give up on.

Yeah, unfortunately Ford's official answer seems to be "it's purely cosmetic".

Put a rusted axle in your marketing and let me know how it sells. (@Ford, not Bannerman specifically lol)

What a bullshit answer. Cosmetic or not, I don't want rust anywhere on a new truck, especially not at these prices.

Not saying I agree with it. But I did still order mine knowing there is a risk it shows up rusted.

My MY22 looks similar to your guys'. There is plenty of rust visible. On the plus side, my underbody insulation came riveted to the body and my driveshaft isn't busted lol.

Not sure I care enough to do anything.

While it looks like crap and completely unacceptable , it is hardened steel and would take 100 years to rust to the point of causing issues

Okay, I glanced under the truck over the right rear tire and can see some rust on the front of the rear axle.

I am scheduled to take it to Line-X — across the street from the dealership — on Monday, January 17th after Ford does my driveshaft recall work.

Line-X is applying a product called Valugard as an under carriage protectant against rust for $500. They are going to apply a chemical rust converter over the rusty axle areas prior to treatment. The service includes a fogging type application inside the door panels to protect from rust as well.

I was told the treatment is guaranteed for 8 years. Anybody have any experience with this?
