Dash Shuts Off

The update is for the ipm (cluster) but the tsb says update all modules before the ipm

I had mine done last week and now my Sync 4 will no longer pair a new phone and sync no longer reads that contacts from the phone that is paired. I also can't delete the phone that is paired.

Is this related to the software update or is it a coincidence that the module crapped out during the upgrade????? The dealer ordered a module that is due on Monday. So we will know soon.

Did the update cause any collateral damage to your truck?
my phone worked fine, my sync was updated, i think im on version 610 from 253

Well I went to calibrate the trailer tpms, the calibration will not save, and everytime I select trailer tpms, it asks me to calibrate

Hello All,

I went in to have this TSB done for the trailer brake last Monday, 5-1-2023 and since then I am noticing that my Apple CarPlay is spotty sometimes. It will connect, then in like 5 min it will disconnect, then reconnect. I have a 30 minute drive home from work and sometimes it will do it 2-3 times before I get home. I didn't have that issue before. Also, I realized this past Friday that I have no GPS (red icon on screen) on my navigation.

Update - Using Forscan I did go in and reset the APIM module. I also tried resetting Sync using the power and right seek buttons with no change. I finally broke down and did a factory reset, since I read on another forum that others fixed the issue with that - no improvement and now my Ford Pass app disconnected from the Truck and it will not connect to Wifi in order to activate the app again.

Anyone else with this issue?

I just wanted to provide an update to those who might be having the same issues, since per Ford, this is not an isolated problem. Summary of issues:
  • Apple Car Play connects and disconnects randomly.
  • No GPS Icon displays on Navigation. Initially it was stuck showing my truck at the dealership, since that was the location is was last connected prior to the issue. Once I did the factory reset, now it shows the truck in Dearborn Michigan, where it was born. It does not move, regardless if I'm driving.
  • Initially it would not connect to my Wifi, not allowing my Ford Pass app to reconnect to the truck after factory reset. Once the dealership took a second look and got it to connect to a hotspot, my Ford Pass app is connected to the truck and it also connects to my home Wifi again.
  • Although I do not currently have a SiriusXM subscription, when going to it as a source, it will not connect to the preview channel or provide the subscription info they typically do. It just constantly says "loading/connecting" and will not load.

The service department submitted the issue to Tech Line for answers, but were waiting on a response. The next day, I called the Sync Help Center and tried to see if they had any better ideas. They did not have any idea, but were going to "escalate" it to their Engineering Department.

In the end, my service department called me to let me know that Tech Line responded with "Engineering is currently working on a solution and are anticipating an OTA update to affected vehicles, but there is no ETA available on when the update will be rolled out."

This seems to be a common problem and I sort of assumed if I waited awhile, Ford would push a software fix, but it happened to me last week so I guess they haven’t done anything yet. The same blank screen results if I select the optional trailer cam (which I don’t have) and I have to reset.

Does Ford have a technical chat line or something? So far I haven’t found a reasonable way to communicate with them. The dealers don’t seem to be able to deal with this stuff…

Hmmm this is interesting. I just installed a trailer brake and module on my 23 because it didnt come with one. Anytime I tried to enter the trailer info area of the cluster it would do the restart. Since installing the unit and turning it on it has stopped. I wrote it off to the module not the cluster figuring it needed the trailer brake module to even enter that screen. Are we certain the Module has nothing to do with this hiccup?

And the other question, is this module supposed to be installed from the factory?

Its just two plugs and two bolts very simple install. Tons of people do it themselves but there is a stock module that comes with the truck and that unit has not capabilities of doing anything tow related. The part numbers are different and everything. I wondered if the stock module cannot allow the truck to use trailer features so it responds by shutting off.

Anymore updates on this software issue? anyone get a ota update??
I actually kept following up with Ford through the techline associate that they assigned to my case about every 30 days or so and all they kept telling me is that they have no new ETA on the OTA update. In October, when calling back, they actually told me my case was closed and said that it's part of their policy to close cases if there is no solution within a set # of days and told me to go back to the dealer to start the process over. So, no help there.

When taking it back to the dealer, they applied the updates again, hoping it would fix something, but it did not. Now they are trying to get approval from Ford to replace the APIM module. I am still waiting on them to receive approval and hope that fixes it.

I am not sure, but in talking to the dealer and tech line, it sounded more like a software bug which is why they thought an OTA update would be the fix.

I have the trailer brake controller from factory and it was only when going to the trailer tire pressure screen (which technically requires TPS sensors in your trailer to provide info) that caused the black screen and reset. Since TSB was applied, this issue has been fixed, but caused other issues. Now when going to this trailer pressure screen, it's just like the truck tire pressure screen but with blank values.

Yes mine cluster does the same but only on trailer tire status and dealer has replaced cluster already and still does it and they have been working on it (engineers) since January 2022 and still no TSB on it, I keep asking them if they have a solution they said yes then when I took it in to have other stuff done they said now they didn’t have a solutio, so here I am still waiting for fix sorry for the bad new. Oh I also found that problem while I was checking stuff out with salesman but didn’t think anything about it. will post again if they ever have a solution.

Same happens to me. I took it to the dealer as well. The replaced the cluster. No fix. Gave my truck back and said engineers are working on it. When my cluster shut off I get all kinds of warnings in the app about my brakes not working correctly, power steering, etc. Surprised they are not taking it more serious since it can cause accidents while towing and driving. Has anyone had luck escalating this issue?

Sadly no. Nothing has changed. I ask all the time.

I just bought a new 23 402a last month and yesterday I was playing around in the trailer info and my cluster reboots also.

I have not pushed the button in over a year and have not had my screen reboot since. :ROFLMAO:

Just bought my '23 402a two weeks ago and had not yet "hit the button" and now I will not. Thank you for the warning!
