What's new

F150 Tremor FORScan

Try the new version first. It should include the updates that were in beta at the time of release and is safer for the novice user.

If you still have trouble the beta link is below. DO NOT try any of the firmware or other advanced functions in beta. You can very easily break something permanently.

yikes now you got me a little scared. I will uninstall the beta and roll back to 2.3.50 before doing the other mods I have in my list.

Beta is fine, just stay away from the firmware / module updates. Just doing as-built changes it works exactly the same. I just didn’t want anyone who decides to download it to make an oops. ;)

I'm a newb with Forscan. A couple years ago I bought the ELM327 but never tried it out. Anyone know if this will work or should I order a better one? Suggestions? I can't install the driver because I don't have a dvd insert in my laptop so that's one problem.

I grabbed the one from the first post. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081VQVD3F/?tag=f150tremor-20. Was on sale yesterday for 39.99. not sure about today

The Ebay one no good for $15 shipped?
Not sure what you're referring to but I went with what was recommended. Livinitup on f150forum.com is the Forscan god. If you get a cheap knock off you may run into read/write issues from my research.

Isn't the hardware just a conduit for the programming?

I mean yeah but the cable I got has drivers and whatnot that get installed on the PC (I believe). The way I understand it, it's more than just a plain cable like an HDMI cable. With an HDMI, it either works or it doesn't. The $100 cable performs like a $10 cable. This doesn't seem to be the case with the obd cable. Other than that, I don't have more of an understanding of the why

The short of it is:

The newer trucks have multiple different types of can bus. The hardware drives the ability of the software to interface with the appropriate modules. The cheap adapter might work, it might not. There have been a lot of issues with the cheap ones. The recommended adapters are known to work reliably and recommended by the creators of the software. The cheap / old ELMs are not recommended due to the issues.

More than likely it uses a generic FTDI driver which are easily downloadable.

There are a lot of reported issues with the generic ELM327s. It might work, it might not. More than likely even if it “works” you will not be able to see all of the modules in the truck due to hardware limitations.

Good talk here and seems some speculation. I ordered the cheap Ebay cable to experiment and see what happens. Will let you all know.

I had a cheap one with the manual hs/ms switch that worked great on my '16 XLT. When I try it on my '22 it tells me when I first connect the device isn't recommended. I was able to load the BCM module, make changes their, but I couldn't load the modules necessary to add Glare free lihhting. I ordered the more expensive one so waiti g for that to come in. Not worth possibility of bricking my truck to save a few bucks.

Thanks for the insight, made me place my order for the $60 one.

I know I'm gonna take alot of heat for this...But...Is there anyone in the Los Angeles area that can do the Forscaning for me for a nominal or exorbitant fee...?

Idk why you'd take heat for asking. If you were in my area I'd gladly help you out! After signing a waiver first 😂

I just got my ODB Link Ex from amazon and I tried connecting to the truck and I get this error. What should I do?

After a little research it could be that Ford or the dealer flashed the truck and forscan thinks there's a tune? Found my Module build data file but I still can't figure out which PCM text I should put between the 3 in the doc. Trying not to screw anything up lol

Tried entering each of the 3 codes and no luck. Any ideas?

Just got my OBD module in to start playing around, hope I don't have this issue but if I do please figure it out quickly. 😉

Sorry I’m a little late to the party. This is happing because Forscan hasn’t loaded all of the possible module configurations for the ‘23 yet. It takes them a little while to catch up as users submit logs for new models / software versions.

Try this beta release which has been reported as working on ‘23s. Just don’t mess with the firmware / software update functionality that is included in beta, bad things can happen.
