Ford Performance Tune

Was the $825 price including the install?

I'm seeing a couple of places are selling it cheaper.

I went to my local dealership and they said they would sell it to me for 775 and I would have to pay 1hr labor @99 bucks and obviously your factory warranty stays intact as long as a dealership does the install. So I ordered mine on Monday! You do have to run 91 or higher though. No biggie in my opinion.

So it doesn't affect warranty? Or extended warranties?

It reduces your factor warranty and disqualifies your extended warranty for drivetrain. 5/60 is now just 3/36.

Some will argue a federal law requires the manufacturer to prove the damage was rate to the “after market part”. But in the real world, the manufacturer can presume the change caused the issue and then the owner had to prove otherwise.

Also, ford seems its performance parts as “after market”.

The above aside, some dealers will not report after market modifications. However, Ford is smart bc with this tune, it has proof you added an after market modification and may automatically reduce your warranty. Guess we will see how this plays out.

Last thought, I’m sure Ford has tested the tune and it’s conservative. Do the likelihood one would have an issue should be very low.

What are your sources?

For what? Take a look at fords own warranty information. I summarized part of it. The rest is legal opinion.
Sorry, I guess that came across shitty and that wasn't my intention. The dealership I go to said it doesn't affect the factory warranty but apparently they were wrong.

My dealership said it doesn't affect warranty. On the F150ecoboost forum apparently someone has contacted Ford Performance and they confirmed that it does not affect warranty. The Ford Performance warranty document also specifically says it does not negate your pre-existing warranty. As far as I can tell, the 3/36 warranty that Ford Performance advertises applies to the device/product itself and has nothing to do with your factory warranty.

Until I see something more convincing I'm inclined to believe that this tune has no impact on Ford factory warranty.

FWIW, I went to my local dealer in Colorado Springs and was told, as of now, they believe that the tune will void the Ford extended warranty. They told me that Ford views anything aftermarket, even if it's from and installed by Ford, as voiding the extended warranty. It's interesting how we are all hearing different things.

I'll ask my dealership again when I have it in hand.

Here is the link to the FP warranty. They explicitly say that drivetrain malfunction not caused by the FP part is covered. I suppose that still leaves failures cased by the FP part which would be covered by the FP 3/36 warranty. Splitting hairs for sure and I suspect there could be a lot of variability in a dealerships interpretation of this.

Still, a tune signed off by Ford would have to be pretty conservative. Not an issue that I'm worried about.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to order the tuner for my truck which is currently at 36k miles. The next question for me is whether or not to purchase an extended warranty plan which I was planning on doing to cover things like computers, sensors, etc on this truck.

Ford definitely could deny an engine or transmission claim due to the tune, but that just needs to be a somewhat calculated risk on the part of us consumers.

I know the standard internet answer is that Ford would have to prove a failure was due to the tune (or any aftermarket part under the Magnuss Moss act), but realistically, they can deny anything they want and then it'll be a fight to get anything covered since we've messed with the programming of the truck which in theory trickles down to just about every component on the vehicle.

I get the appeal of the tune, more power, better transmission programming, it does sound awesome. But, unless you can get something in writing that says it will not mess with your warranty, it doesn’t seem like it’s worth risking the warranty to me. The truck already has great power. Ford can essentially do whatever they want if you end up having an issue, very easy for them to say it’s because of the tune. Everything on these trucks is expensive, I would hate to be out of pocket thousands of dollars for a repair, based on a tune that wasn’t necessary.

I don't disagree with you on the power. I'm looking for better transmission performance more than anything. I had my last truck tuned late in the game and I wish I had done it sooner.

This is correct.

Guys, if you are concerned and want facts actually read the ford performance warranty doc. It addresses this. It’s considered an aftermarket modification. But for the added back of the lower 3/36 (v 5/60) it would void warranty.

This all is likely moot as others have said. Chances of a problem are extremely low.

This thread is when I first learned how many folks care about a manufacturers warranty.
