Installed: SVT (Gen 1) Raptor Rear Shocks on Tremor

Ok, that makes sense now. Hopefully the Ford liners won’t need any trimming. Thanks for the help.

I received one of these shocks yesterday. Hopefully the other will be here today.

First impression. Wow! They're huge compared to the stock shocks.
Second impression. Wow! They have a TON of preload.

I can easily compress the stock shocks with one hand. I need two hands and moderate pressure to compress the Bilsteins. I had to use all of my 240lbs to compress these FOX shocks. I agree with BroncoNonOwner's comment above about needing a ratchet strap to compress them during installation.

I'm guessing they will add about an inch to the rear ride height. I'll measure my truck before and after I install them.

Surprising right ?!
You can almost dribble the stock shocks like a basket ball.

I only weigh 185lbs and couldn't get the Fox shock to budge at all. Just keep in mind it will have a lot of stored energy when you have it compressed with the ratchet strap. So work efficiently, and keep it away from your face/eyes while you are crawling around under there. I also learned the end position of the buckle once you have it compressed can impede your ability to mount and release it once its in place. Replicating the 1st shock install on the second side, led me to have to crawl back out, release the strap and reposition it. After install, when I released the strap on the second shock, I was standing outside of the wheel arch. The SVT did noticeably lift the rear end. Even with 600lbs in my bed. Stored energy.

LOL at your basketball reference.

Yeah, I understand the drill. I've moved heavy equipment around (I've owned and moved several mills and lathes). Thanks for the warning though.

How do you place the ratchet strap?
If you look at CAinCA's picture of the new shock, they come with a plastic strap around them already. Which by the way is not really under any tension. At least they were'nt on mine. I ran the strap in that same spot on both ends.

I see, but the strap goes inside the plastic rock cover and it covers the eye of the shock preventing it from being bolted. If you move the strap slightly to avoid the eye, it looks like it will let go so I still don’t quite see how you managed but I get the idea.

The plastic cover gives a nice solid perch. Keep the strap tight to the SVT logo on the reservoir end , but still on the flat section that's perpendicular to the mount hole. Also, I used a thinner style strap of 1".

Did not realize the plastic was strong enough to be used like that. Good to know.

My second shock showed up at 12:40. I had them installed by 1:20. LOL!

I ran the ratchet strap inside the plastic cover. The end of the shock is metal and has three built in standoffs for the cover. I looped the strap around the standoff as pictured above but inside the cover.

I measured the length needed and then set the length of each shock up off the truck so they just slipped in place. Once I had the bolts in place I had my son stand on the tailgate to relieve the tension so I could slip the strap off the reservoir. Worked like a charm.

I took a short test drive. Compared the the Bilstein 5100s they ride smoother. I don't feel every little bump in the road now. They seem to have a little more body roll but it's not bad. I still feel the undamped bouncy feeling once in a while but I'm beginning to think it's coming from the front end now.

These are in a completely different league compared to the stock shocks. Much smoother and less body roll.

I measured the rear fender at 41" without any shocks installed and 41.75" with the FOX installed. That's with approximately 350lbs of camper shell and bedslide installed. The front fender is at 38.75".

I was planning to install a 2" leveling kit, but I might just go with the Fox 2.0 struts instead. They are only $299 each and I think that they would pair up nicely with these Raptor shocks.

For $300 more I would go 6112. Much better than Fox 2.0 and less body roll with digressive valving.

I didn't like the digressive valving on the rear 5100s. I'd think you'd want to stick to similar valving front and rear too.

I don’t see why would you have to stick to the same valving. The SVT are tuned for 1000 lbs more weight. The 2.0 fox will be extremely soft in comparison. IMO the stiffer 6112 are a better match to how the SVT are tuned.
Fair enough if you don’t like digressive but 2.5s is simply not in the same league of 2.0 foxes. Fox will ride great on road chatter but will really suck offroad on whoops or larger impacts especially if you have some load and will have poor body roll and dive in comparison.

Personally I think the perfect budget setup on the Tremor for overlanding with a permanent load in the back (my use) is:
6112 front
SVT rear
RAS rear or if you can afford it Icon rear leafs with block removal.

That setup would provide serious capability offroad, excellent ride with very little body roll, and very decent load capability especially with the icon leafs.
Add 17in wheel and 34/35in tires and you got yourself a mini Raptor with better MPG and more practical width for narrower trails.

Glad the install went well! I can tell you off-road you are going to like them even more 😁.

After giving up on my HOSS 3.0 setup for the front I also have decided to go with 2.0 snap rings for now. I just can’t stand the rake any more. I do think the extra preload you get with setting the snap rings high will be helpful to match up with the SVT rears. We will see.

Also just fyi when looking at the Fox 2.0 options the snap rings have more travel than the 2.0 coilovers. From my research the snap rings are pretty close to the stock tremor strut travel. Not sure which one you are thinking about. Just my $.02

Keep us posted on this setup. This is the route I was headed down after your Hoss test did not work out.

Does anyone know if the Fox 2.5 Performance Elite DSC front coilovers from Accutune have enough travel for the Tremor ? The ability to pre-tune them for our specific weight needs is appealing.

Ive been exploring the rabbit hole of the Deaver leaf spring options via the Raptor forums but haven’t reached a comfort level with the HD option or which lift over stock. Any ideas if removal of the leaf spring block changes our shock travel needs ?

I did take the truck up a dirt back road that has a some washboard and deep potholes. These shocks definitely absorbed the bumps and ruts better than either the stock or Bilstein shocks.

Please keep us posted. I'd be interested to hear how much lift you can get and how they ride compared to the stock struts.

I ordered from Stage3 because they had them for $509. Looks like they are out of stock and should take about a month to ship from Fox. I ordered a week ago so should get here mid Feb. I will keep you all up to date.
$509 for the pair? That’s a great price
