New ICON F150 3inch Suspension

from the center of the wheel/hub to the edge of the fender in a straight line up. From Icon, he got 3" of lift (23"-26"), turned them down about 5/8" (1" thread showing) and netted about 24.5" (1.5" lift).
Droop will be the same regardless of preload (maybe use limit straps to reduce the UCA banging off of the frame?). 5/8" reduced preload=1.5" is pretty significant. That UCA and LCA pin offset must be reducing the angle noticeably.

@metallikatz3 any thoughts on those rear springs? Asking for a friend.. ;)

@metallikatz3 Thanks for the clarification.. this helps a bunch. Curious, where is your Icon UCA hitting? And dumb question.. since you lowered the coil overs from factory, do you think that is causing the UCA to hit? ...As if* ...Icon design the coils specifically at 3" for the UCA to work together? I'm no expert.. so this might not be applicable.. or even relevant?

I'm not planning to jump anything.. and more / less utilizing the system for light / medium off roading (construction sites in Texas).. however the rubber padding doesn't sound bad..
 
This is the area where the UCAs would contact the frame.

I don't think that lowering my ride height via pre-load adjustment would change that. The Coilover would still have the same extended length no matter the pre-load setting. This pic has the coilover at the factory setting still and it definitely contacts the frame here as the photo was taken.

On a side note - I'd rather have the UCA hit the frame instead of the UCA hit the coilover spring as i've seen on some other set-ups. I bought a 4runner a few years ago with a level spacer on it and the UCA would actually catch on the springs at full droop and make a god awful noise. That spacer was quickly removed on that truck to swap for coilovers as well.

Makes total sense and thanks for the explanation / photo.. seems like a bump stop (in some form) could be appropriate.

There you go adulting again. I was still in my imaginary world where I used every bit of that droop three times/week. It's only a guess but at some point the better a UCA gets, the more likely it is limit straps need to be used. also, it's about time UCAs were put through a torture test. They don't do a whole lot and get all the bragging rights.

These things drooooop for days!

But I'd rather have the UCA/Frame point be the limiting factor for down travel which can be easily fixed with a limit strap. My thinking is that it doesn't stress the upper ball joint by having that max out it's articulation and it doesn't stress the shock by topping out either.

Can u post a photo of the CV angle let me know if you find a good limit strap.
 
Are you guys jumping that much you will constantly have them hitting the frame? If you drop one tire of a ledge with little 35's on you will hit the body work or your rock sliders to get over. Do these shocks have a top out bumper in them? Do both the billet and tube ones hit? enquiring minds want to know.

I’m hoping to install my fronts with billets this weekend. So we will find out.

My wife grew up with Greg Foutz and I think he is a pretty good guy and makes some nice stuff. He was part of the SVT on the Raptor.

Oh, no doubt he makes fine stuff. I don't like the price/quality coefficient. I mean, nearly $1,000 for a limit strap setup. Not a fan.
 
Got the front shocks and UCA’s installed. Overall not a bad install but damn do I need a lift. My knees and feet are killing me from kneeling down for the last 5 hours.

UCA's hitting at full drop with the shock installed? Decided against the Inconsistent Orange color?

They do sit on the frame at full droop with shock installed. Its actually is a problem for the headlight leveling ball. You have to take the ball off the OEM uca and put it on the bracket on the icon uca. But at full droop you can’t get it on. If you install it not at full droop but then go to full droop, I suspect it will break the ball joint off. So I haven’t installed it yet. My headlights are aimed at the sky due to it.

I did t necessarily decide against the orange as much as I decided against more $$$ and time.
