What's new

Roadmaster Active Suspension (RAS)

It seems Ford has more than one style bump stop even on the 22's...
RAS said they have had other 22 models where the spacers fit and more like mine that do not fit

I just ended up modifying the bump stop and the original spacer to make it all fit. Trimming down the tab on the stop, cutting off one pin on the spacer, and trimming down the second pin. I didn't want to wait. but they were willing to give me a refund or send me out new spacers when they were available.

All in all I can't imagine why Ford would have different bump stop mounts on the same truck
RAS customer service was great.

I had to do the same on mine (22 model); had to knock one pin out & trim a tab to get them to “fit”

I had the RAS installed on my 23 and no matter how many times i adjusted them i could not get the truck to sit level side to side. For some reason the truck sits high on the driver side. I spoke with RAS multiple times about it and they could not provide me with a fix. I loved how the truck rode with them but i eventually took it off and returned it. I now have Air Ride bags, and im very happy with them.

Just got back from Scout camp, pulling our trailer 1400 miles.
I didn't notice trailer sway, changing lanes was a breeze, the bump and jerk when hitting bumps was also gone.
I have a slight rake with my Halo leveling kit with the trailer attached (I do not have my truck level, just raised to reduce the rake)
100% worth the money for me

I am having the same issue with my RAS loves the ride, but after towing are camper I'm pulling off the RAS and will install Air bags. What air bags did you go with?

Been working on a video for several weeks will be out next week finally. I put them to the test and I have mixed reviews.

Pros: For towing they do great, just as advertised, rear end stays up and back end is planted, no "axel wrap" feeling.

They clearly give you 2 more inches of lift on the back

Easy to install

They don't affect much/to any articulation off roading (after mods)

They have fixed this issue with the bump stop now which is great!

Cons: Bump stop was an issue and I ripped and broke off light leveler as well as bent and smashed all the inner brackets attached to leaf springs.

Bumpstop collars were damaged off road (I had to modify collars by grinding them down even after new bump stop puck was installed)

Even after bump stop fix, I still had to bend my fins for clearance on light leveler

The bolts are cheap, everything not painted is already rusted.

So overall, RAS never made the claim you can off-road in them. I put them to the test and after the mods the system works well off road. The rear end def stays up, which I appreciate when rock crawling. Articulation didn't appear to be hampered. The ride on pavement was barely affected, maybe just slightly more stiff, really moot point. Pulling the bass boat and 5k cargo trailer, the system did well, just as advertised. All in all I'm going to keep on the truck for a few more months and see how it goes. Even with the negative Cons, I would still buy this for the truck. Also their customer support is hands on awesome!

PS: I've noticed no difference in height side to side like some are dealing with. I'll keep this on my mind.

Thanks for the write up and I'm looking forward to the video! I'm planning on offroading as well and definitely want to get stuff modified ahead of time to avoid any damage

Air ride 5000. I got the compressor. Mounted it behind back seat, and mounted the gauge in the front cab.

I had an issue with my RAS hitting the level sensors as well even with on road driving. The guys at RAS said to mount the front bracket on the 2nd hole (i did the first hole) and this would allow it to clear.

I just bend my first fin up more to protect the plug of the light level sensor. Your way makes more sense. The question I have though will the spring still tighten all the way moving it up?

I believe so. I haven't changed mine yet, but I imagine that you'd have to put fewer turns on the spring to achieve the same tension

Yeah after looking at it you're correct. I for some reason thought the holes were other way around. This makes sense instead of bending crap. I appreciate it! I'm always learning!

Incase anyone is considering these, I just posted some on the for sale section.

Hey ladies and gents?

Been thinking about RAS, I'm not leveled so when I tow my General and ATV on my 20ft trailer I can pretty much configure it to sit level (about 3" sag with trailer) What I'm wondering is empty is it going to give me more of a rake? (another 2"?) I like the rake personally, but I don't know if I want more when empty lol. Seem like a no brainer to me as I tow quite a bit in the summer and it seems like it will take a bit of the bounce out of it.

Thanks!

More and more I think about it, it should not affect empty ride hight it's just going to squat 2" less with the trailer on it. But I do appreciate the confirmation on this!! :)

It’s going to add a little more rake. They are adjustable right, so it will depend on how tight you make the install and what tension you put on the springs… but yes, you’re going to get some additional rake when you’re unloaded. I think 2” is a pretty good guess… could be 1.5? Could be 2.5.

Also, the HD springs will bring it up higher than that.

Are you guys just ordering the normal f150 kit (Kit ID: 3611-YHD) I am not seeing a Tremor specific option when ordering?

I’ll chime in here. It’s the regular F150 kit, however they now have a specific tremor spacer for your bump stop. 50% or so of the tremors need that new bump stop. They will send you new ones for free if you need them.

I will say, or plug for myself, I have some for sale on here if you’re interested. If not, no worries. Asking $325 shipped.

First, thank you @Tremors i appreciate your response about the rake! (I think I'll just take them off between tows.. Maybe lol) I'm sorry I would buy yours, but I think I wanna go with the HDs because I might be putting a bigger load here and there pulling a mini ex. Where do you guys buy them from, is there a shop everyone is ordering from? Like Halo lifts? Or just straight from the manufaturer. Tia!

Halo lifts may give a discount if you order from them. I would Price compare and give them a call to see what discount they can give, tremortrails used to give a 10% discount.
