Tremor Rear Shock Options

This. And they add some ride height, up to an inch, which I am not a fan of given the already large rake.
This is my only point of contention, especially since the 5160s are already a half inch short. They are a short term solution, but none the less I hope I don't put myself in a bad spot if they stay on a bit.

Yes I posted several uca in the uca thread.

In your opinion would you explain better why you went with the Vertex? Thank you.
I went with the Vertex primarily because of the adjustability. I figure that way I can get the ride that suits me instead of hoping I like how the universal valving feels. A simple turn of the knob is how they adjust.

I get everyone wanting the do it all shock here, but has something been said that makes the RAS system not a viable option any longer?
I’m actually in the middle of installing the RAS HD right now. I actually want a little rake because the Eibach lift springs left me with none. We’ll see how it goes.

These will be the last piece to my puzzle. The hole will not be dug any deeper!
But....there is so much you haven't even looked at yet!

Why not billet? It's stronger!

And you can do so much more...

Or start small and work up...

Plus random things that, let's be honest, we all need....

And this is just RPG! There's so many other brands to decide from. Don't limit yourself! You deserve better, and so does your truck.

I'm assuming that if you level the front, and then put the RAS kit on which raises the rear a bit it's got to lift the cab height at that point right? I've been thinking that a level kit and then the RAS as I will do some towing is the route I want to go when my truck arrives, but I also want it to still fit in my garage (I think I'd still be fine either way.)

Conversing with the return folks at where I bought my shocks. I’m trying to get the 5165 I ordered instead of the 5160 they shipped.
Below is his comment. What we need right? Custom length shocks without direct fitment meaning the 5165s.

“the stiffness is the same, just custom length shocks without direct fitment”

I believe we're all under the impression that the valving or valve profile is different (claimed about 15% 'stiffer') in the 5165 vs. the 5160. Perhaps you could use that terminology when talking to Bilstein. "Hey Bilstein, are you saying that the 5160 is valved, or has the same valving profile, as the 5165?"
Many of their products are claimed to be custom-valved/tuned for each specific vehicle application. Meaning, a 5100 say for a Toyota 4Runner is NOT the same valving as a 5100 for an F-250. (Just picking model numbers here)

If you intend on using the Eibach Springs I think adding in the RAS is about the only option if you don’t want to be nose high. It’s the only solution I could come up with. Just finished installing the HD at the lowest tension setting I could come up with. Preliminary results look like it raised the rear over an inch. I’ll try to take better measurements later and hopefully see what it did as far as affecting the ride quality. I’m hoping it doesn’t have too much of a negative effect.

Bilstein told me this today:
-Making a tremor specific shock takes an incredible amount of engineering, cost and time.
-5160 is direct fit obviously not designed for a Tremor
-5165 part #25-187748 valving 255/70 stiffer than
-5165 part #25-187731 valving 170/60 less stiff.
-5165’s are not direct fit meaning they are not specifically designed for certain vehicles. Apparently people are guessing when buying these as to how they will perform.
- upgrading shocks should help with the squirrely feeling when pulling my boat.
-He would not guarantee any shock they make would not fail by installing on a Tremor.

C'mon, @Yeti . We need that 5165 report! ;)

Any chance he gave the valving for the 5160s? It seems to me that the extra weight of everything I'm running will work a more restrictive shock harder. Maybe the lighter shock would provide more longevity and ride quality if it's not too light.

I did not get the specific valving for the direct fit 5160’s. I am currently fighting with the distributer to take back the 5160 they sent because I ordered the 65’s. They are telling me it’s the same shock. After that the decision is what 5165 to order. The 255/70 valving or the 170/60 valving.

The tech that I spoke with at Bilstein stated that the 255/70 would be ideal with the weight around 400lbs on the rear, he did say because they were universal he wouldn't guarantee anything though on the Tremor. I think they don't realize the Tremor is just lifted with blocks in the rear, I don't know if they think it has the same or similar rear to the raptor. The other you mentioned are meant for lighter weight vehicles, jeeps, rangers, etc. I will be going with the 255/70 once I recoup from the deck.

why would my shocks have apparently the correct part number but the sticker says 5160 not 5165 ?

So my 5165s do show 5160 on the box but is over 31" uncompressed and noticeably different compression/rebound than my current 5160s. As a side note, the banjo fittings are also different

@Tremhunter could you put a tape on those you received for overall length - both compressed and extended?
Sure is curious - the whole part number fiasco. Sheesh.

It was a head scratcher to Bilstein also. I sent them the numbers stamped into the shock. Waiting for a reply.
