Tremor Rear Shock Options

After reading these 24 pages one to many times….. I pulled the trigger on the Fox BDS #98224828 shocks today. I can’t take anymore of the ass end of this truck checking out just driving down fire roads, etc..

The only thing left to figure out is; do I need to extend my bump stops a 1/2” or not? I’m looking to run 34.5” or 35’s tires later down the road once I trash the stockers.
@Captain made a 3/4" spacer out of UHMW when going with these shocks.

I really only have a basic understanding of the compression & rebound. From the compressed length it appears that the tire could cause damage before the bump stop could prevent it & that is why I would need to lengthen the bump stop with a 1/2- 1” spacer?

You want the bump stop to hit before the shock bottoms out. The shock isn’t designed to hard stop a bottom out and could bend or break if it hits it’s limit before the bump stop.

Exactly! It's the number 1 cause of shock failure.

Thanks for the explanation @Cheif2Slo, makes perfect since.
Just ordered the Timbren bump stop spacer kit, now just have to take some measurements to see if I go with the 1/2 or 1” spacers provided in the kit…

I'm tempted to use some of the Halolifts "Boss" series shocks. I assume these were made by Halolifts by Eibach and are old stock - would love feedback is anyone knows. With a stock height Tremor, I think these should work.

Anyone use Halolift shocks previously?

@MDPE, Kevin from Halo just posted in the Halo coil over thread with their “corrected“ rear measurements.

For those interested in an affordable option, I installed the Rancho RS5000X shock below and got very good results. Still smooth over bumps and uneven terrain but more planted in city driving. Measurements are almost identical to factory as well

Probably a dumb question but do I need shock boots to cover the bare metal piston on these bilsteins?

Not a dumb question, some companies say yes other companies so no that they trap the grim and lead to premature wear of the shock, I say no because of that very reason, you can't see what's under the boot when you wash it without removing it. That's my personal opinion of course other's may vary.

Makes sense. It would be good idea if they made a debris shield for them like motorcycles have. I can just imagine the knicks and dings the bare tube will get after a bunch of highway miles. I can also imagine those knicks not being good for any seal in the tube as it travels past.

Think I’ll stick to not cover and see what happens.

I saw those too! Even at the regular price of $299 they oddly affordable for a quality remote reservoir shock. Is it too good to be true? (Assuming the measurements work out)

ShockSurplus has the lengths of Icon rears:

If those lengths are correct it would not be a good choice, it would lead to many over extension events, they are almost 2" short on the extended length.

So, Timbren reached out to me over social media asking if I wanted to test a prototype SES kit from them (100% confirmed it was legit). Does anyone here have exp with them and their previous kits? Worth it to try? Any downsides to a kit? It's supposedly a "replacement for airbags" and it would be totally free for me.

Timbren is quality stuff, it certainly wouldn't hurt to try it, I say go for it and keep us informed, send them a link to the forum as well.

I use timbrens when towing our camper (6500lbs loaded, hitch wt about 700lbs); I installed the current F150 kit but had to contact timbren to send extra spacer since the unloaded gap was over 2 inches. they sent additional 1 inch spacer (have a total of 2 (1 inch) spacers stacked) and unloaded gap is slightly over 1 inch. When trailer is hooked up I am completely level (keep in mind I have 2 inch front level). The ride is great and trailer bounce is minimal. When running unhitched the rear can be slightly rough but nothing too bad considering I took a 2K mile road trip with them installed.
