Tremor Rear Shock Options

i have had the Bilstein 5165 on for a few hundred miles and the ass no longer kicks out on the wash board dirt roads! And i actually like the stiffer rear and not a big fan of the "floating" feel that the original shocks had.

does anyone know the difference between the Halo Boss Aluma rear shocks (https://halolifts.com/shop/make/ford/halolifts-boss-aluma-2-0-rear-shocks-04-current/)

and the halo Lifts Elka rears(https://halolifts.com/shop/make/for...hocks-kit-for-ford-f-150-4x4-2014-to-current/)

there is a significant cost jump. the Elka's are priced similarly to other remote res options like the Icons. the 2 options look really similar to each other and are both partially Halo Branded.
I believe one is a 2” diameter and the other is a 2 1/2” diameter

We've put 4k miles on our Tremor now. Overall I've been pretty happy with the ride but occasionally the rear end gets upset like it's completely undamped. It's unsettling when it happens. I have a camper shell installed (which helped a little) and have a bed slide on order (Cargo-Ease 1200lb Hybrid). I just ordered a set of Bilstein 5100s (33-318950 for 0-2" lifts) to try out. I'll post back here when I get them installed.

Yah, I have felt some bouncing in mine, I just installed a set of Airlift 5000 bags in it to help with towing. Keep us updated, I'm considering shocks myself!

I've had the Bilstein 5100's installed in the rear for about 6 months (stock Tremor front suspension). With and without the RAS system installed, the rear end still feels like it side steps a little bit when the roads get bad enough. One time I was going around a slight curve on the freeway at 75+ and hit a big pothole. Scared the crap outta me with how much the rear end kicked out.

Right now I have Elka dual compression adjustable damping rears on order: https://www.elkasuspension.com/prod...rd-f-150-4x4-2021-to-2022-n-a/?c=72e1ba2726d6

I think I will be able to dial in the behavior a bit better with both high and low speed compression adjustability.

Thanks for the feedback. I figure that for $225 it is worth a shot. I put the 4600s on my '07 F-150 and they helped.

It's a live axle truck with soft springs. I don't expect it to handle like my Cayman. Not that the Cayman would handle those potholes anyway. ;)

Yes, for about $100 per shock it was a no brainer for me to try, too. But honestly, I think the stock Tremor shocks are pretty good. Just a little too squishy, but not a whole lot different than the 5100's.

How is the towing after the air bag install? I’m considering it also for towing my travel trailer.

I received the Bilstein 5100s (33-318950 for 0-2" lifts) on Friday afternoon. It took me about 20-30 minutes to install them. FWIW: I didn't jack up the truck or put it on blocks/ramps. I used a tie down strap to hold them at the correct length (about 1" longer than they came in the box).

On Friday night we took the truck for a 30 mile drive on paved but bumpy back roads and I could instantly feel a difference. Then over the weekend we took a 270 mile round trip mostly on highways but some bumpier back roads too. Overall it seems better. The back end doesn't have that 60's Cadillac underdamped feel anymore. I can feel the little bumps and imperfections more though. The ride feels a lot like our 2018 Explorer Platinum (firmer than a stock Tremor). The truck seemed to be easier to drive and never got the feeling that the back end was going to step out.

For my use (mostly highway, some mild off road, Soft-RoadIsh) I think the Bilsteins get the job done and are a cost effective solution.

I'd be really interested in trying a set of progressive shocks like the Fox 2.0 if they made them. Unfortunately I think the cheapest progressives that would fit are $800 a pair. I'm not that interested. ;)

Hey sir, sorry just saw this.....believe it or not I haven't towed with it yet but will be soon. However one thing I noticed so far is when I had the bags at 5psi (lowest your supposed to go) I did get a slight buck when the rear suspension compresses (on a bridge near me) so I think what is happening is that it's hitting the internal jounce bumpers inside the bags as they collaps. So I aired up to 6psi now and I'll see how that goes (empty of course) I'm thinking I'll put 10psi or maybe 15psi when I have the trailer on to start. The bags had 10psi in them when I got the truck back (neighbor installed them) and I could feel that it was a definitely stiffer empty, but with the trailer I bet it would be perfect. Just some useless information for you! lol

Is Skyjacker a decent shock or are the Eibachs better? Will the ADX 2.0 fit the Tremor?

Have you received the Elka shocks yet? These had caight my eye also as I've been looking around.
I finally did, just been too busy to post. They are really high quality and I really like the fact that the reservoirs are connected by nice machined single blocks of metal to the main shock. Much better than some of the other options with hose clamps or braided hoses for the reservoirs. They also come with boots, which I think all shocks should come with.

I've tried both high and low speed set at full stiff, full soft, and the original factory settings. I've been trying out low speed at full stiff and high speed at full soft for a little over a week. I think I like it the most for my street/highway driving. So far so good!

@Bullitt1841 that's promising to be sure. I'd like to check the lengths and stroke to be sure it's all usable, whether I'd need to strap for off-road, etc. There's another thread re deaver leaves and so I would love to be able to combine elka shocks with deavers in back, and the elka coilovers up front too w/spc uca's. Love the idea of the dual compression clickers to dial in different uses. They may apparently be working on Tremor specific versions but I suppose time and testing will tell which deavers and elkas would match what we want to do, and function well together.
Ty for the feedback!

Made my own thread but figured I would add the info to this thread too.

SVT (Gen 1) Raptor rear shocks:
Extended length 29.3 inches
Compressed length 17.9
Total travel 11.4

2.5 inch body internal bypass with a piggyback. Bolts right up and comes with a good quality rock guard. Cost is about $350 each.

Ride is very controlled but not overly stiff in the ride zone. These are tuned for the steal body F150 which are almost a 1000 lbs heavier than our trucks. The internal bypasses make for a very progressive valving setup. They are extremely stiff at full extension and compression.

I love them so far.

Anyone running the Fox 985-26-054 2.0 Performance rear shock with CD Reservoir? Really want adjustability on the rears and these are almost dead on for compressed (18.4") and extended (30.52") lengths of stock. Maybe would need to run a .5" Timken bumpstop spacer to be safe.

Fox 985-26-054

Thinking of pairing these up with the Fox snap ring fronts, or maybe some Halo 2.0 coilovers and SPC UCA's.

I’m not sure if anyone is running the ones with the adjusters, but there are a few running the 054 shocks. I think you should get them and the snap rings for the front and let me know how they are. I’m considering doing the same.

Yeah, I do like the adjustability of the coilovers. But...I also had coilovers on my 4Runner and they were a set and forget it. So why spend the extra if the Fox snap rings work and give the lift I want. I know @Nomad and some other guys are running the front snap rings. Wonder what their long term thoughts are.
