Tremor Rear Shock Options

An option if you wanted to go full suspension change, the only issue is I can't find the extended and compressed lengths on the rear shocks, I have sent a few emails trying to get the info but have yet to get it, assuming that it's similar to the non reservoir model it isn't exact but close enough to function properly. The only shock that almost matches exactly is the custom Bilstein 5165, that I posted and that @Yeti is currently running.

Is there a single rear shock that the manufacturer will warranty on a Tremor install? When I contacted Eibach they were not happy with Tremor testing and said they still had no compatible shocks ..

Most will warranty the shock some just have longer warranty periods, the halo lifts will, Eibach should, Bilstein definitely will, fox should as well, RC does, basically big a brand find a unit within the range of 29.5-31" extended and 17.8-18.5 compressed with at least a 9" travel stroke.

We'll have an empty truck with the 5165s on it (hopefully) within 10 days. If people send bottles of bourbon to me, I may be persuaded to share my findings. If they're good bottles, I'll be throwing on the big tires and running up the hill. It it's PVW 23, I'll drive it up the rocky side. You save $$$ on shocks and I save $$ on booze. ;)

@Yeti he's laid down the challenge!

So knowing nothing about the subject this might be a stupid idea. Would there be any way to attempt rebuilding a set of stock rear shocks and in the process change out the internal components to improve its performance characteristics?

The units used on the rear are meant to be thrown away when worn out, I don't know if there's a company that could rebuild them and if they did the cost would probably be more than buying a replacement. I get what you after though but changing the valving could change a lot of other characteristics of the unit as well so not sure it would be helpful to do so. As always this is just my opinion.

Damn. I've been trying to figure out where to put everything in my bed to do the rocks empty.. Let me get another set of fronts on, first. Overall, I've been running the 5165s and you haven't heard a thing, from me. That's the type of gear you want. :)

I'll write something up on them after I get back from RAGBRAI.

6112's up front?

Opinion or not you're probably pretty on point. I almost didn't say anything in the first place since if it were worth trying someone already would have.

@Yeti 's point about the potential legal implications of using unapproved components weighs heavy on my mind.

The Bilstein 5165s I posted about on the rear may be the best bet, assuming @Yeti is saying he is happy with them, they almost match stock specs except the valving is a little stiffer than stock. When I change my stuff out shortly that's what I will probably go with on the rear, still trying to figure out how much I wanna go down the rabbit hole with the front though.

yeah, I think those will end up being my spares. I've had the eibach's on the last few months waiting for Icon to get their heads out of their collective backside. I figure my mains will be Elka's and my spares will be the 6112s.

yeah, I'm definitely happy with them. Even with my current 800# cargo, they're a bit stiffer than I like but they also allow me to take an exit like Sebastien Loeb.

That said, I also have the RAS on which is where a lot of the stiffness comes from.

What particular part number do you have on the 5165?

The first one I posted above is the same shock just less rebound and compression numbers, it may work but I would send a message to find out first, the second one is the one @Yeti has I pretty sure because it is the one I talked to Bilstein about. It's compression is 700 with 2550 rebound, the first one I posted above has a compression of 550 with a rebound of 1600 so the shock may pack up if driven fast offroad, that would be my only concern.

That’s to bad Icon is not working for you. I hope you find time to write a review of all them compared back to back.

Bilstein 5165 Series Reservoir Shock Absorber - 25-187748 is what I'm running for the rears. So far, no fade (of course I tried) and no issues whatsoever. I've been averaging 800# in the bed with some trips being over 1100#. I haven't done much in terms of hard trails yet, though.
