What do you do in your spare time other than plan on a Tremor?

For what it’s worth, I’ve had good results from Hornady Superformance with the 53 gr Vmax in my AR. It’s a bull barrel DPMS with a Timney trigger. I got lucky and ended up with a unicorn AR that shoots exceptional. Had a buddy who bought it to hunt coyotes with and he really hated packing it around and much preferred his bolt gun. I’ll bet if you try a few different bullet weights of some higher end ammunition you can get that gun to MOA or very close.

I have plans to move the Trigicon VCOG from the Colt 6700A4 over to a HK MR556A1 when I find one — USMC is currently using the M27/HK416 and the HK MR556A1 seems to be the civilian version to build a clone off of. I will most likely pickup another ACOG for the Colt 6700A4 down the road.

This Colt 6700A4 (7.99 lbs) is pretty darn heavy with the KAS M5 RAS (.9 lbs) system and VCOG (1.79 lbs) on it — I thought the HK MR556A1 (8.61lbs) would be a bit heavier than the Colt build… nope.

Totally get it. When I'm not shooting for the tightest group I can get, I throw 55 gr down range myself. The main reason I didn't go with the MR556 is I wanted a HK416 barrel length. HK has traditionally been very unsupportive of the civilian market which has turned me off to them a bit. The MR556 also uses a taper-bore, so chopping down can be problematic. I found LWRC and in many ways I actually prefer it to the HK416. It's modular, so lighter, built to equal standards and cheaper. The trigger group is also different in the HK, I prefer to be a bit more standard. I've talked with operators who have run both LWRC and HK in combat and they like them equally as far as performance. My buddy has 2 full auto HK416s sitting in his safe. Drool....

I went 16" on my AR10. I figure it's a good length for adding a suppressor to without getting too long. I'm building it to be a < 500yrd rifle.

Yeah, plus the 16” keep you out of the SBR issue — they do have work arounds like welding the flash suppressor on, but I am not a fan.

Yeah, I'd pay the $200 before doing that. They make a 12.1" upper for that rifle from the factory, which is tempting, but then I remember that I have a 10.5" 5.56 SBR and a 4.5" 9mm SBR for that purpose.

With the 16” barrel of the M27 it is nearly the same length as the M16A4 when you add the suppressor — plus you do get a little more muzzle velocity with the suppressor added, so it should have better range than the M4. Plus the idea was the M27 would replace the M249 — instead the entire fireteam has an M27 now. I am not sure if the USMC moved over to the Army M855A1 rounds though — from what I read the ammo severely shortened the barrel life:

“Bolts have been known to break within 3,000 rounds [of M855A1] and barrel life has been cut by 50%. This is NOT a deficiency in the M4 carbine”

I mentioned the buffer weight and spring yesterday to him — they are original… It’s an older rifle and worth checking. The Colt BCG worked without issue as long is it was 5.56 in the chamber — it won’t cycle fully with .223 — the rifle is chambered to accept .223 and 5.56.

You do, but it's good for a year and only takes about two weeks to get returned from the ATF. The benefits of an SBR are being able to use a vertical foregrip and you can have an adjustable length of pull. It's also protected by law, where pistol braces are only authorized with a technical letter. It can be revoked at any time and I have a feeling they will. Their problem right now is that by definition, an AR15 isn't really a firearm and they know it. They need to figure out how to rewrite the definition of a receiver and keep it quiet.

Yeah, but the performance of those rounds on body armor is astounding. I suppose they should tailor their loadout for the enemy they face. No need for the Class 3A penetration when your enemy doesn't have it.

I didn't even think of it for that use. Great idea! I love it...I bought it because I was a pilot in the Army and just missed flying. It's very immersive and with the motion based controller it like flying without the proprioception part. It's a rush man.

That said, for just checking targets there are much more inexpensive options that would work well too.

Oh I agree on using the drone. I just meant there are cheaper drones out there that could accomplish it. The only nice thing about mine is when wearing the googles the screen is huge. It's like having a movie screen view through the camera.

I absolutely love it. It's a rush to fly and the range/speed/maneuverability is amazing. The motion controller was the lynch pin to buying it. I will probably never use the regular controller it comes with.

Best Buy had $300 off which basically covers the cost of their protection plan. I'll find out how well the protection plan works when I take mine in for repairs on Friday. I highly recommend that you do not fly it in a dense area while drinking beer....haha. On the bright side I popped the cherry, kinda like the first scratch on a new truck. haha
