402A and Trailer Tow Package-Why?

I've done enough research on forums to believe its a bigger radiator and a different sway bar and that's about it. Before the 10-speed transmissions, it also added trans coolers. I guess it all depends on how much risk a person is willing to take. $1k to guarantee I can tow the max on a $70K truck is easily justifiable to me. Hell...I've even had high temps without towing, so the radiator is enough for me.
Pretty much this. Everyone fretting over paying 1-1.5% of the cost of their truck for an addon is being kind of silly imo. You tow, you want to be reassured? Get it. You don't? Don't.

That's why I ordered with it, hard to complain when I am getting Granger Pricing too, though I would have preferred to only pay $2XX instead of $1k+.

I have it on my order for the reasons y'all mentioned- ultimately everyone just wants the absolute confirmation. No real way to get it, it seems.

Let's say you have trailer tow added on, have an "issue" and somehow ford comes back and says you don't have the 11,600 capacity and it's not covered by warranty or insurance denies bc of negligence (or whatever it's called).. (I can be dramatic sometimes 😂)

99.9% won't ever need to worry about it but how shitty would that be.

Some folks may be maximizing their budget and if the cheaper option is all that's needed and they can add another feature, why not. Splitting hairs at thay point but like it's been said 1,000 times - why can't we just 'know' the right answer

My concern with trusting those 2021 tow rating documents is that they specifically don't break out the Tremor separate from a regular F150. When i spoke to the customer relations department they pointed me to the fleet website below, which as you can see gives separate tow numbers for the Tremor apart from other F150s (likely due to suspension changes). https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/trucks/f150/2022/models/f150-tremor/

There are separate tow and payload numbers specific to the Tremor.

Unfortunately this fleet website does not further break out the difference between the Trailer Tow Package and the Tow Technology Package.

as a follow up it looks like the 2022 Fleet Towing Guide is out https://www.fleet.ford.com/content/...-guides/2022_Ford_RVandTrailerTowingGuide.pdf

It now includes a section for the F-150 Tremor, maybe you guys can help explain. Footnote 6 doesn't specifically say the Trailer Towing Package is needed to achieve these numbers. However one could assume the Tremor is listed as subsection of Footnote 2 (which does require the Trailer Towing Package).

Either way i added the $210 option to my 402a order today to get ahead of the $1,500 price hike coming next week.

Ford reduced the price of the tow package to $210 since all it adds is an additional wiring harness connector.

So now I'm wondering if Ford is going to send refund checks out to those of us who bought it at $1095.

I'm going to ask Granger when I pick it up.

It is possible something changed between 2021 model orders and 2022 orders, however i would certainly point out the change in package price and ask them to explain what physical hardware changed to account for the difference.

I doubt they will, could be they lowered the cost to make up the difference in price increase, or it could be that instead of charging 1098 for the tow package they increased the price for the truck overall because of the fact every truck comes with most things needed to make the 10900 tow rating.

The Raptor has both the heat exchanger and the air to oil cooler in the front. It's controlled by a thermostat and people make larger coolers and thermostat delete kits. I was going to try and retro fit the system to my 19' Expy. I think it is possible but after pulling my boat in 116 degree weather in Nevada with no problems I lost interest.

I messaged Zack and he had no idea it had changed but said it would be a Ford thing.

I think there is a good argument for a refund due to the fact there has been no physical differences between the tow packages on the 2022 models.
I’m going to call ford customer service at some point to inquire and will post here when I do.

Hi, just wondering if you were able to get any information from Ford regarding trailer tow vs tow tech packages on 22 model trims? I would love to find out the truth and nothing but the truth. Thank you sir.

We're all in the same boat. This could all be different for 400a/401a, but for those of us ordering 402a the fact max tow for the F150 Tremor and minimum tow is separated by $210 doesn't make a bit of sense. I'm convinced that there is no difference in towing capacity (this is what i was told on the phone by customer relations) between the Tow Tech Package and the Trailer Tow Package on a 402a 2022 Tremor.

Additional trailer wiring is the only thing that could cost $210 and make any logical sense.

And the more efficient radiator.

Whenever I finally get my 401a with the Tow Tech package (NOT the 53A Trailer Tow Package) I'm going to do a thorough inspection with pictures and post here to do my part in providing intel. I'll try to find a part number and take measurements on the radiator, ID the leaf springs, and whatever else we think might be pertinent.
While this opinion is contrary to popular belief, I'm more and more of the opinion that all Tremors are receiving the same major hardware - leaf's, radiator, etc. - and thus have the same tow rating. And, the difference in the packages is more technology-related (wiring, lighting, etc).
I'm over worrying about it and second-guessing my build. But, I'm still curious enough to put a little effort in to find an answer!

I will gladly do the same if my truck ever shows up. I have a 402A on order with the tow technology package and not the 53A trailer tow package. IMO the trailer tow package is not required to have the capability of pulling the 10,900 and the more that time passes I’m starting to be more confident in that opinion.

(y) I have the same thoughts as you do currently and ordered mine with just the 17T Tow Tech package and not the 53A Trailer Tow Package but i'm looking to get a definite answer for my sanity too. The only thing I could find on the 53A build and price difference compared to what wasn't already on the truck if you added the 17T (Tow Tech Package) was the tailgate light. When I also called the Ford phone number they said 10,900. What we really need is someone with the 53A package to compare against.

I can't say anything about how the build for the 2021s were, but for 2022 I can. If you did not add the trailer tow package your at 7000lbs tow. You must add it for any of the packages including 402a. The reason if you chose 402a and the tow package is only $210, is because that package comes with all the other requirements (cameras, tow tech package, ETC) needed to increase tow capacity with the exception of the increased cooling and a few other goodies. Bottom line, standard, mid or high you must add the tow package to max your towing capacity.
