I have been having active conversations with my ordering dealer today about this.
The new car sales guy admitted it was confusing and that he couldn't make sense of the issue either. So, we hung up and he apparently ran it up the food chain "confirming it with Ford".
He is saying that in order to get the 10,900lb tow rating, you have to opt for the Trailer Tow Package (53A). You would then have to add the 360 degree camera package as a standalone option if you wanted that functionality. Interestingly, he's telling me that the interior work surface COMES WITH the 53A Trailer Tow package now.
I pressed for details on what does the 53A come with, or what is it "doing to the truck" to increase the tow rating by almost 4,000lbs. He went to check. He didn't sound real confident, but said he talked with the service guys and the new car manager and they strongly believe it's upgraded rear leaf springs.
So, using 2021 numbers from the Build and Price, I would DELETE the $880 Tow Tech package and ADD the $1090 Trailer Tow Package and ADD the $765 360degree camera. I'll leave the $165 interior work surface out of the equation...that's just odd.
So roughly a swing of ADDING $975-ish to 'upgrade' to the 10,900lb tow capacity.
Thoughts? If a guy believes the "it's in the leaf's" answer, then a Trailer Tow truck would ride stiffer unloaded than a non-trailer tow truck.
(Still bothersome that NOWHERE PHYSICALLY ON THE TRUCK does it actually state it's tow rating or GCVWR.)
