402A and Trailer Tow Package-Why?

sigh.....

So I already have the 360 camera package on the 402A though right?
That is correct. If you get the 402A and the trailer tow package you get everything included in the tow tech package along with the increased towing capacity.

Yes sir, we do know that. The question at hand is, does the Trailer Tech (17T) package provide you with with the 10,900 tow rating. And we can't collectively get an answer or come to a consensus.

I don't trust dealerships for information based on my experiences. I rely instead on the documentation, which without a doubt states you need the trailer tow package for any F150 with a 3.5 EcoBoost engine to haul more than 7,000 lbs. Ford publishes the towing guide for a reason. Personally the argument ends there for me.

Well, I called Chip to see what his thoughts were on 17T vs 53A, and while he agreed with me that the 53A doesn't appear to add anything the 402A doesn't come with, he did point out that dropping it from my order would cause me to loose my protected price. I ordered just before they raised prices on 12/27. So I'll just stick with what I've got and be absolutely confident in the rating.

Sounds like a solid plan. I inquired to my dealer about ADDING the 53A to mine (I elected the 17T) and they said I would have to absorb the now increased MSRP (about $900 worth since my order 12/1/21) and also then add (because I ordered a 401a) the 360 camera package back on (another $900) - so it was going to be an $1800-$2000 change for me. I told them I wasn't prepared to do that for something no one could really tell me what it did.
I did get my vin from Ford - using the vin decoder it says 10,900 for tow rating. But, it might just be reporting generic values at this point as well.
What an adventure.

I have a 401a with the tow tech only (17T). If there is a difference between it and a truck with the 53a package I haven't found it.

RotorHead is right. Ford specifically states that you need 53A to tow 10,900 LBS. While we don't specifically know what the differences are, we do have documentation stating there is a different towing rating.

Yup. Capability vs liability. My Rebel was fully capable of towing my 8000 pound trailer and did it well with absolutely no issues. It was also rated to tow 12K+ pounds. My issue was the Payload. It was only rated for 1100 pounds. Again, the truck performed flawlessly. When I realized that I was a bone head and that any involvement in an accident could cost me north of $100K, I made the choice to own a vehicle that the DOT won't feel the nead to pull out the calculator. Everyone will make their own decisions and I hope there is not a point that those decisions bite us in the backside.

I can see it from everyone's perspective on here. And certainly respect everyone's convictions. It's all a personal choice....like about everything else in life.
It's frustrating it isn't more clear. I concur there is ONE piece of fine print in a footnote that mentions 53A specifically (as opposed to the generic "trailer tow packages" of which Ford considers all 17T, 53A, 53B, etc):

But even in this footnote, I could argue that if a guy has opted for 17T Tow Tech, then he's not trying to tow WITH ONLY the Class IV hitch...he has the Class IV hitch AND one of Ford's Trailer Tow packages. And, Ford's documentation doesn't show that 53A gives you something more than 17T in a Tremor. So....not clear cut for me.

I totally concur that to be 100% positive, you'd opt for the 53A.

I got the towing package because it's really a small amount in the grand scheme of a 402A price tag... talking ~1.5% of the cost.

Gives me peace of mind, I'm sure it does add to the truck and Ford isn't just charging $1k for nothing, that just sounds like open lawsuit territory.

@Troy, @Coachdad and @High_Country - We have found documentation showing that you get a bigger radiator with the trailer tow package.
Awesome! Maybe that will start to color in the picture better for everyone. If you've got something you can post, throw 'er up here.

Earlier in this thread someone had shown something that hinted at a slightly bigger radiator. But it was one of those things that it wasn't specific to a trim level or package. Like, "tow packages get a bigger radiator" but they generally also get things like a 3.73 rear end or a 36 gallon tank...which are all standard on a Tremor. When I get mine (withOUT the 53A) I'll scour it for for a part number and take some measurements to verify. But...that'll be two more months. :(

Source? bigger or more fins per inch?
It was posted previously in this thread, but I figured I'd bring it forward. According to this, bigger core and more tubes/fins.

I have a big.... Radiator. This does go well with my previous definition of ET...
