Catalytic Convertor protection

I finally got the trans skid back from the shop & installed today. Will it prevent cat theft; NO…
It may make the shit birds move on to an easier target when they crawl under because it will require more work than before when there was no protection at all. The overall width of the skid is now 25.75” & will be an excellent transmission skid, but will not solve the cat theft problem!
Appreciate the pictures letting us know. It's still a great idea and looks good!

Just watched this you tube video, looks like an extra wide transmission skid plate this guy installs that also covers the cats, may be a good solution.

Might need to look into something like this eventually, our Sheriff just reported 10 converter thefts on just one relatively rural block last night

Good idea, out of stock so will have to keep an eye on it.

Best protection comes in a camera and laser sighted 9mm, I don't leave home without it and those dash cams or at least mine functions as a security camera as well.

So what your saying is move to a country where my 40S&W can actually leave my gun safe?

Just becareful to pick the right state, pick the wrong one and you'll be worse off than you are now. Hint TN, TX, and FL for sure, there's more than that though. Just avoid the west coast and the northeast and you'll be ok.

Anyone try the Talon's Garage Cat/transmittion skid? Was pondering what I want to do. This seems better than like the RCI transmission skid option since it covers the Catalytic converter too. Not really in love with Aluminum, but it's probably fine.

Just put a Talons aluminum plate on and it looks good. Be aware that the bolts on the back part of the skid plate are very difficult to attach. I couldn’t do it but my grandson was able to get his arm in to reach it. Also, they highly recommend you get a Fumoto valve for the oil and it is an absolute must. Changing the oil without one would be a mess.

Edit: I've never used the Fumoto valve but it seems like a great system. I change my own oil, but I wonder about taking it to a Jiffy Lube and whether or not they would wait long enough for it to drain completely.

I just saw a news cast where thieves are drilling holes in gas tanks to steal gas. So the next logical step is to add something like this to the gas tank.

Like a flamethrower?

Finally got my fumoto valve and talon skid plate, once it warms up a bit I'll install

Another option is the Raptor OEM steel skid plate. Still working on the oil drain cover (I ordered the wrong PN the first time). I will update with that part number once I confirm.

Skid Plate: HL3Z-7222-C
Bolt (qty 4): W716831-S439
Nut (qty 2): W719490-S439

This covers the same as the cardboard cover that comes stock. Why we didn’t get this OEM on the Tremor I have no idea.

I like this option the best assume it.protects the convertor.
Yes the cats are completely covered. You would need to cut or remove the plate to get to them. That is going to add time and noise. It’s the most economical solution I’ve found and gets rid of the garbage cardboard cover.

Not the greatest pic but you get the idea.

I'm going to order. Most thieves are just running around with a recip saw and in and out in a couple min. They wouldn't have the tools to remove the skid ill order tks

$101Dollars on Tasca parts.

Just a note to anyone considering the Raptor Skid: If your goal is primarily cat protection you are good with the parts listed above. In addition you will have significantly better underbody protection since the factory shield is essentially fiberboard.

For max underbody protection: There is also a oil drain access panel that covers the area circled below that can be added. I currently have what I believe is the correct part number on order, but I am waiting until I have it on hand to confirm. The previous access cover I ordered was too small as Ford has made an update to the skid plate (Ford parts numbering system is a pain). Realistically this adds very little additional protection, but adds ~$60 in cost between the plate and hardware.

I will add those parts once I confirm fitment, but honestly I could easily see just not buying those since the main skid covers the critical areas. Just a FYI for those considering this install.
