Why Tremor not Raptor (your reason)?

Price and where I live. I was shopping used and Raptors had significantly more miles and were significantly more money than Tremors. On the way to check out my Tremor I had a deposit on I actually drove right past a 21’ Raptor I almost stopped to check out, except it had 40k more miles and was $7k more than the 24’ Tremor I bought.

I don’t live near any dunes where I could actually let a Raptor rip, and I plan to frequently use the bed, Raptor payload sucks. Parking at my work would have been miserable too with a Raptor, super narrow spots. Love the Raptor styling but the new modular bumper on my 24’ scratches the itch. If I lived out west I would have made a poor financial decision and got a Raptor 😂.

Beyond the Raptor looks, I really wanted 4A and torsen diff for miserable winter conditions. Tremor has it. Plenty happy with the decision. The pro access tailgate has been a pleasant surprise too (not available on the Raptor). I use it more than 90% of the time grabbing my hockey gear.

width and turning radius is worse in the raptor making it hard to live with for where/what i do. height keeps it out of a decent chunk of parking garages i deal with. payload/tow capacity is a lot better on the tremor. weighs ~600lb less so i've played around with a couple locals with EB raptors and walked away from em (not a deciding factor for trucks usually just rednecks doing stupid shit)

personally i was eyeballing superduty tremors but they were kinda overkill on the utility column and lacking in the fun column where raptors were almost perfect on the fun column but too many negatives on the utility column. F150 Tremor was goldilocks

lets face it, many of these trucks both Tremor and Raptor, will not be used off road. In fact, I bet the majority of Raptors rarely see any offroading like what they are designed for. The Tremor is a perfect daily driver with decent mpg and good stock power and has a smooth ride. Im too old to care to impress peeps with my vehicles. MInes will get me on and off the deep soft sand of OBX for surfing and fishing and maybe some Blue Ridge trails. The Tremor is a better deal if value is your driving motive. pun intended. Now if money were no obect id have a Raptor R pulling my custiom made tube buggy for Baja. but Tremor for me is an awesome deal and super comfortable ride. Im keeping mine mostly stock. been down the road before on big tires and re-gearing, 4.56s no more for me. Ive driven in some hellacious offroading on quite a few continents so a stock 4x4 i can get most anywhere i want. But it is nice to know if i want to later add a supercharger on this coyote its all possible. :)

I looked at both. The Raptor would have cost me $20,000 more than my 402a tremor. It can't tow as much and is harder to park because it's wider. If the price was more similar, I would likely have bought a Raptor though.

For me, Tremor 402A 3.5 EB was more practical.

Better payload, more utility as a TRUCK while having great offroad chops and max TRACTION when needed.

Raptor is amazing, but I needed a truck more than just a toy.

FWIW, a buddy has a new F-450 Platinum dually. Beautiful truck. His cab and interior trim (seats etc) are almost IDENTICAL to my Tremor. And he paid $130 for his.

Yeah, I'm happy.

She does make a good surf-mobile, good to see someone else recognize that attribute!

I went from a Raptor to tremor due to issues after a theft attempt. I really wanted another Raptor but around me dealer markups were insane and got a tremor for 30k less.

yeah, i cant spend $100k plus on a vehicle for daily driver. Ford send me a link to a $132,000 Lariat with blue shelby stripe. Thats insanity for a vehicle that was near the price of my first home nearly 25 years ago.

I’ve watched all the Tremor vs Raptor videos. I understand the differences in how they are equipped and what their intended purposes are. I don’t care about any of that. Also, if you haven’t thought about the Raptor or wondered if you would have been happier in one, this likely isn’t the right thread for you to weigh in on.

So, if you thought about or think about a Raptor, why did you opt for the Tremor?
Without going into a lot of detail, i was on my second raptor, when i was introduced to the tremor. Went to the dealer with the intention to buy an expi, (bit of a time crunch) wife didn’t like the one they had, and the raptor was sold, salesman said check this out. Towing capacity was the clincher, along with the v8.

heck yeah. watch the youtube videos where they ask teh Ford mechanics which engine they prefer. Coyote and 5.2/5.4 V8 were majority of preferences. But the sleeper section in those interviews was the solid engine that 2.7 is and that engine along with V8's is preferred by fleet managers. thats intriguing.

Well I wanted a raptor until I drove one. There too heavy and too wide. It didn’t have the power of the Tremor. 3.5 to 3.5. I would have had to get the R series to have the real power. Just to much money. Went with the Tremor. Glad I did.
This was the same for me, plus when I was buying all I saw was raptors everywhere so I went with a Tremor 5.0

Raptors are really cool, no disrespect at all.

But when you step back and run the numbers, reality sets in. You can buy a Tremor with the Coyote V8, add a supercharger for about $12k, upgrade to a serious Fox suspension setup, and still be well under the MSRP of a Raptor, and way under a Raptor R.

At that point you’ve got gobs of horsepower and torque, better towing, normal width for daily driving, and a V8 that Ford engineered from day one to accept a supercharger on a proven platform.
The 3.5 ecoboost is amazing tech but it's already at the limit of its peak performance without it hurting mechanicals, a coyote v8 is just beginning to be upgraded for more hp/tq.

That’s when the math, and the long-term ownership logic, start to matter more than the badge.

Initially I did it because I couldn't get X-price on the Raptor. Would have bought a Raptor R if I could. Ended up buying the 5.0L 402A tremor. Started having buyers remorse because there were features on the Raptor not attainable on the Tremor; 37" tires without a major lift and duel active suspension. I have since found the following:
WIth this, 35" tires and a wipple supercharger I've decided I made the correct decision.

1. $5000.00 “Regional Dealer Markup" on Raptors at local dealers (Northern CO)
2. V-8 Available without the additional expense of the Raptor R
3. Is there an additional insurance premium on Raptors over Tremors (I didn’t look into it due to item #1 above)?

100%.

My choice was between the Tremor and a Raptor, but not the Raptor most would assume. I was actually considering the Ranger Raptor before I eventually purchased my '23 F-150 Tremor. The reasons I went with the Tremor were mainly the choice of the 5.0L V8 and the towing capability of the Tremor vs any of the Raptor choices. I have an 18 foot enclosed car trailer and the leaf spring suspension of the Tremor and its tow rating is just a better choice for towing something that size. I don't live near any sand dunes and the Tremor is more than capable of handling most of the off-roading I do which is mostly during hunting seasons. If I want to do any really serious off-roading I also have a lifted '75 Bronco.

Suspension difference - enjoy the Tremor softer ride on the highway. I have the coyote 5L with supercharger so the power is there along with a nice ride. Do not do so much off road or towing any more as I sold my Farm in 2025.
