Mountain Yak - 2021 Leadfoot 402a

I finally got around to adding the RCI tank skid, yesterday. It tool longer for me to clean the driveway than to remove the plastic "skid plate" and install the RCI.
I also took the opportunity to see what Ford's 23 upgrade will look like.... more rake.

Just need an 6 in puck to level that 23’. I have a similar ramp that I haven’t used yet, did they do all right?

Yeah, if they're rated for 2000ish pounds, they'll be fine. I don't think I'd put an HD on them other than the powerwagon

Just noticed your other "current ride". One of my clients is doing a full resto on one just a little newer.

Holy crap that looks awesome!!
I've a 93 cobra R in Luci but I keep blowing transmissions. I've been trying to figure out how to put a manual in but have the clutch hand controls. either that or extend the cab another 8+ inches so my legs could actually move enough to use a floor clutch.

Manual would be awesome! My Tacoma is a manual so I understand the importance of being exactly the right distance from the pedals, and I think you said you were Hodor-size so that's probably a challenge.

This project started as a work truck that my clients granddad owned, then the drive train is out of a wrecked, very low miles, 2017 Mustang GT. He's had in in the works since 2017 and is hoping it'll be complete in September of this year.

Guess it's past time for some updates.
I currently have the Bilstein 5160s and have run them for almost 1000 miles. They do run about a half inch shorter than stock but have not over extended them in any testing. They were a bit stiff at first but have definitely improved with a few hundred miles.

Installed the RCI tank skid. Our plastic skids are almost as silly as our felt skids. RCI makes solid products, this is no different.

Purchased a scheduled Super Pacific X1 camper and will be going to Portland, Oregon for the install in August then up to Squamish, BC for a couple weeks.

With this purchase and new build plans, I've ordered and received a set of Bilstein 5165s. They are said to be about 15% stiffer so with my additional 685 pound additional dry weight (camper, drawer, cooler and battery), the additional stiffness will be welcome.

Still waiting on my icon front 2.5" coilovers. They are due in the next 3 weeks.

In addition to the new rear shocks, I'm considering switching my wheel and tire setup to either stock spec wheels and 285/75r18 tires or 35x11.5r17 beadlocks for the added weight rating (4k pounds + vs 3600 pounds)

Pics will be inbound, soon'ish

Sounds good, as for the tire size go with which ever you can find the most options in, if you stick to the narrower tire and a stockish wheel setup you will allow yourself more wheel articulation. I was shocked to find the amount of articulation these trucks have, hence the pic of mine with the tire about 2.5" up into the fender well and the fact the other side was still on the ground had me in shock that a pickup could articulate like that with a leaf spring rear.

The trip to Squamish sounds like a great try out for the new top, should be a lot of fun. Might be able to meet a few of our fellow cannuks up in that area to show you some places.

Nice! Excited for the pics.

Do you know how much lift you expect to get out of the icon coilovers? They are for regular F150s, so less than the 2.5" I'm assuming? I'm wondering if i get the vertex 3" ones how much I'll get out of them on a tremor. Any clue on the stock extended and collapsed dimensions for the front?

That is a good question on the stock extended and compressed measurements for the front, that may wind up being something else we have to start looking at to get the lift many want, is a universal coilover for the front. Though with it being ifs you want gain much without changing to a long travel kit. Our current stock truck is the equivalent to a mid travel setup on the standard F150. So even going to a mid travel won't gain you much on the Tremor.
@Cranbery if I remember reading correctly somebody stated they had been told the Vertex coilover wouldn't work on the Tremor. So check on that before ordering.
The icon should give right at 1.5" of lift maybe a bit more. Other than the RC lift and Eibach strut and spring (which may require a new UCA) the icon may be the best option, I keep hoping Bilstein will do one as their current 6112 they have for the standard F150 only nets about a 1/2" gain per Bilstein on the Tremor and as they put it that's stretching it.

Hit me up when you are going to Portland, I live nearby and would be fun to grab a beer/whiskey.

I'm guessing 1.75" but they state 1.25" so we'll see what I end up with. They come with 700# springs which should be slightly higher than after i install the winch (once a kit is available)

Squamish will be a deadly road trip! Not sure what route you planned on taking back home but I’d recommend taking the scenic way to Kamloops than you can stop and say hi to me. Ive always said the Duffy lake rd has to be the most puked on road in Canada.

Bilstein 5165

I swapped out the 5160s for 5165s, yesterday. Ever had a 30 minute task that ended in wanting to batch slap someone with a crowbar? So, Bilstein, in their infinite wisdom, decided 2 banjo fittings without a hose swivel would be a good idea. It's not. The way one would prefer to mount these si to keep the reservoir high and out of the way. So ok, just mount the resivoir inverted... except they didnt close the end like on the 5160s. Instead (due to the banjos binding), the only reasonable way to mount the passenger side is to place the resivoir low and on the leading edge of the shock.
Drivers side was easy enough albeit odd with both ports pointing in the opposite direction

But that dang passenger side was a mess. Fird seems to have decided on making the upper shock mount so close to the frame crossbar so to make it an annoying task to mount a poorly designed shock with resi.

All this to prepare for installing the Super Pacific.

I have no doubt that’s super frustrating. Hopefully the performance lives up to your expectations and you’ll forget all about the aggravation.

True. I also need to be patient and remember why I turned my truck into an F250 (it's that stiff)

You know it’s funny I had that same thought about mine. Sits about the same height, tall and heavy E tires, beefed up leaf springs, somewhere in the 16s for mpg. Seems I would’ve likely been money ahead with a 250 Lariat Tremor. Oh well I guess. At least this way I can still turn it back in to a half ton if I desire since I haven’t made any permanent modifications and I’ve kept all my factory parts.

I hope you guys are paying attention...
in stock. I ordered one with a Cobb intercooler and we'll see how it goes.
