New ICON F150 3inch Suspension

I had to take a couple of days to digest this before I responded. After how Icon handled my concern with my previous set, I'm out. I've had 9 Icon suspensions over the years and there won't be a tenth.

That out of the way, in true Icon fashion, their wording is specific and vague (read inaccurate) enough to reset expectations for those looking to buy these.

It looks like they are saying you can add 2.75"-3.25" to the Tremor's base ride height. I'm guessing the marketing team messed up on that (since they probably used the current f150 3" as a base product) and we'll actually get up to 2.25" (ish) of lift. I may be wrong but the cv angles that would be created in a true 3.25" add-on would be less than ideal with the parts described.

In other words, it took them 1.5 years to do what I told them needed to be done to achieve a safe and usable 2 inch lift for the Tremor. Even if it "requires" their magic UCA that nobody else can match..., it sounds like this could actually be a real product for the Tremor.

I personally had a good experience with Icon shocks on my last truck. They went about 35k miles before a rebuild but never actually had any signs of leaking.

They posted the actual product pages and pricing now and advertise it as follows:
Quote:
  • Adjustable coilovers in F-150 Tremor specific length offer 2.5-3" of front lift height over stock

Your current dislike with how icon treated your concerns aside, how was the actual ride of the icons?

Did they turn your vehicle into a brick on road and make the ride uncomfortable but were great off road? Or were they still good on road? I see mixed reviews and it’s likely due to personal opinions, so I probably need to take the reviews with some level of salt.

Appreciate any insight you can provide.

Well, 8 of 9 previous sets kept me loyal. Unfortunately they had their heads somewhere they don't have to worry about sunburn. Rust on a coilover that maybe has 3K miles on it? ok, maybe a bad batch, Change of compatibility after selling them? ok, well design mistakes happen. Telling me to pound sand and "they can fit" after the previous two issues? I'd rather put a set of value-rpiced monroes than deal with them, again. People have significantly varried opinions but I'll give my opinion.

Street: firm, not hard or harsh. Extremely comfortable but not floaty and amazingly stable during any road condition. Driving through Pittsburgh? Icon's have traditionally eaten up potholes the size of craters, speedbumps, curbs, rocks hidden by 20 inches of dust, etc. you hit it and Icon has always simply absorbed it. It's the hard hits, traction and slow speed performance that I've always appreciated. That siad, they're dqueaky as vibrating bed at a no-tell motel.

Off Road: very stable at medium-high (~45 mph) speeds across desert wash, double track and unpaved roads (did I mention the squirrels they ship with every coilover?)Sqeak-squeaksqueak,squeaksqueaksqueaksqueaksqueaksqueaksqueaksqueaksqueaksqueak!!!.
Slow speed technical trails have always been where I appreciate the Icons most.

I've had to rebuild them between 5K and 20K. That is an absolute pain in the backside. When they were on a dedicated truck, that wasn't as bad as spending an additional 15+ hours/year replacing them on a weekly-driver. They do turn them around reasonably quickly and they always seem to send new squirrels with the rebuilt shocks. I'm not really looking forward to progressive shocks but they will certainly get me where I want to go.

I went and looked at their site and found this little tidbit
F-150 XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum also require ICON Front Knuckle Kit part number 94000
So they are tremorizing the knuckle which is what gives us the extra "inch" of lift. I wonder why they didn't simply make a better knuckle overall.

Do think that is what is providing the better cv angle with the additional lift?

That's a tough call. I think in general that's why our stock trucks are better but seeing what my angles were at with less than 2" of lift, I'm not sure 3" is a thing, for us. I do still think their 3" over stock refers to a non-Tremor F150 but I've been wrong before.

Hopefully their dedicated Tremor offering will have other manufacturers following suite shortly.

well, i went ahead and ordered the Rear cdcv shocks to try. i figured i would try the rears first before diving full on into the fronts as well. sounds like units wont start shipping until after SEMA this month though, so i have a little bit of a wait ahead of me.

i did talk to Icon and they said that i could upgrade the CDCV shocks to the CDEV in the future by swapping in the electronic valve and adding in the control system. this is just a nice to know in the event that my use case changes enough to warrant it. i can do that rather than changing out the shocks completely.

Please get some measurements when they arrive. I emailed Icon about the extended and compressed lengths of those shocks. They replied that it was proprietary… seems so silly when Fox literally posts all the specs for their offerings.

I got the exact same response... They are claiming 20% additional front wheel travel compared to a stock tremor (which already has 1in longer front travel than an FX4) in addition to the 2.5-3" lift over our stock tremors. Seems like a bold claim to me so I was hoping to get some measurements to validate their marketing team. 2.5" minimum lift is a little more than my liking for CV's, was hoping to keep it between 1.5-2".

That’s ridiculous. It’s not gonna be a secret once some one gets a hold of a set, and be able to take measurements.

I stand Corrected..
  • TECH NOTE: F-150 Tremor will have have lift height range of 2.5-3" over stock
  • TECH NOTE: Models equipped with gasoline/flex fuel engines will have lift height range of 3.5-4.5" over stock
  • TECH NOTE: Models equipped with PowerBoost hybrid engines will have lift height range of 3.25-4.25" over stock
  • TECH NOTE: Models equipped with Power-Stroke diesel engines will have lift height range of 3-4" over stock
The maths if failing me.. 3" lift and no droop, maybe? I can't imagine how they're providing much more than 2" of droop, with a 3 inch lift. I posted the part number on the Build resources page under spare parts. You never know when that will come in handy...

I had a RL 3.5” lift on my 13 Gen F-150. It had about 1” of droop, rode like crap and killed CV’s when off-roading. It would be amazing if the 14 Gen trucks made the 3.5-4” work without those problems. I just don’t see it, even with the HD CV’s and Tremor knuckles.

I hope we're wrong and it's a solid performer. I would be willing to rebuild the rear suspension for those numbers and reliable performance.

Just a heads up- Icon is running a 15% halloween sale - use code "spooky15" through 10/31

I just ordered my front CDCV and tubular UCAs. I'm still running the normal F150 Icon CDCV rears - so depending on the actual measurements of the Tremor rear shocks I may upgrade to those in the future too

Anyone have these installed yet?

I was told im part of the first production run and should have my shocks mid November. So I don’t suspect anyone actually has them yet. At least the cdcv stage 4. Looks like they have stage 1 & 2 in stock and shipping currently though.
